and what was the final tally as far as cost?

Excellent work, as usual, Zilch, and mad respect, but assuming someone got these back in the day for 39.99, as I did, and put 20 bucks worth of caps in them, I really don't see how you BURIED them.

Do the Indignias sound better? Almost certainly. Your work is nonpareil. Again, as I have vehemently stated many times on this here forum, when they were on sale for 39 bucks, I don't see much beating them.

Only my opinion.

Wow, that place is pretty messy. For reference, the papers are stuck to the top shelf with box plans on the right and XO on the left. The wooden box on the shelf is router bits. The horn on the left is the original JBL econowaveguide. The hearing protection is military issue, given to me by my brother-in-law after his time on an aircraft carrier. The clear bins on the right have power resistors on the bottom, inductors above that, and the tubs (from egg drop soup from the local Chinese restaurant) have capacitors, both poly and NPE. The bin below them has 15 or 20 partially canibalized XO boards from my corporate days. The black thing sitting to the right of the speaker boxes is the housing from one of PE's "full range" oval speakers they had on sale for something like $1.80 (note, they overcharged for them ;)). The Sevin stuff on the shelf is because the dog brought in a turkey carcass and infested the yard with turkey mites, insidious creatures at best.

Guess I need to get back out there and finish those, huh?

Cut the box in half and use the PE .25ft^3 box, use only 1 port, double inductor L2 (1mH), and halve capacitor C2 (6uF), and you should be there. The only part remaining would be to pad down the tweeter to account for only 1 woofer. It should be a 3dB (2ohm series, 15ohm parallel will get you close) pad unless my brain isn't in gear (wouldn't bet against that one).

I noticed much later in this long thread that you have the enclosures made... is your theory on the xover correct for the surround? I'm about to make a center and surrounds to match my fronts...

Start another group buy, that always seems to bring them out...With Insubnia on the horizon, may not be a bad time to generate interest. Otherwise, order up, start building, post with pics as you go along and ask any questions. There will be plenty of people chiming in.

I have another package (bought two sets in the last group) to build so the simple answer is no.

There is a local gathering of AKers near me coming up in March. I hope to attend and I will bring the mighty Indignias if I go. Ima think that might spark a little interest?? :yes:

If you build them, you will love them. So just do it.

That's the plan, all the components without boxes are about $150. I need some cabinet building experience and this seems a great size for a first time cabinet build. I wanted to get this thread back to the forefront since it had fallen so far out of sight. The Insubnia idea looks appealing as well, the AK Collaborative group knows how to do DIY well:yes:
