AK is killing my internet connection more and more often...

Im sorry to see my friends here having problems....

I dont like seeing them loosing something beautiful like this and having to goto Xen2 if its not really needed...

I was really sad if some of you remember when we went to this from VBB (I love VB3.x and lower) but compared to Xen2,this is nice also.......

As a retired IT guy, I know there's nothing worse than bad software. I had a job some years back where they had a troublesome line-of-business application. They got frustrated with it and decided add a staff position to deal with that application. I didn't do any better than they did with it, and spent almost two years wrestling with the software and hearing users whine.

Old forum version may (or may not) work just fine, but it is certainly better to run the latest versions of the software to prevent hacks! Every forum version update released usually features security updates that patch vulnerabilities discovered in the previous versions...if the software writers know about the vulnerabilities, you can bet hackers do too! That's why it is important to keep software up to date! Old versions are not generally supported for very long after an new version is released!

I know you guys hate change...but in this day and age, change is the first line of defense keeping forums safe!

There's that. And there's the reality of library dependencies. Your code might be fine but it will break if it's dependent on deprecated libraries and functions.
 
Using an LG G8 that the screen acess locked up backing out of a thread.
Went on a tablet to troubleshoot the problem and found the manual forced reboot procedure. Also found the thing has an "optimise" feature that may somewhat equate to clean and defrag.
Took a while to complete the operation, have never been done as a heavy user, and to be sure, I rebooted again.
Result was much, much faster overall and less stalling on AK so far.
Maybe this could help some handheld users.

I can report the same. Other than search and delete there are zero issues on both work laptops, iPhone, Android phone and 2 Fire tablets. I do keep all my software up to date for the obvious security issues of not doing so.

Constant churn is a 'feature' of the software industry. Sticking with proven versions has advantages, too. IMO, a substantial portion of IT work is of the make-work kind, with no benefit beyond keeping people employed, but with hidden costs that we have allowed ourselves to accept. The 'licensing' model of sales allows for sloppy software with few direct repercussions, and so it proliferates. If cars stopped working because new cars came out, people would find that intolerable, but with software, you'd better buy that 'new car'!

Don't blame that on the IT guys. The IT guys know where all the buttons are and what they do. But it's the CS guys who make the buttons.

True, but if you drive a 72 Ford Pinto, you better know how to drive it, find parts for it and fix it...you can't expect Ford to maintain parts and trained technicians to do it for you...just like a website should not have to be backwards compatible for a handful of folks that are running archaic hardware and OS's. As far as constant churn...that is what makes technology progress! If early man was satisfied with the first hand chiseled, stone wheel, would we ever have highway speed rated radial tires today, (just as an example?)

Yes this, don't run an obsolete browser, in an obsolete OS, and then blame the website you are accessing for problems caused by their obsolescence. Know their shortcomings and fix them yourself - or upgrade!

I get your point, but it's the IT Managers who want the new buttons that they have no use for.

(btw, I'm not referring to AK staff, just violating my own rules about generalizations ;) )
