AKAI Lovers and Collectors...

Hoi! Even in het engels...

ClarityGX, I'm looking for a good Akai AM 2800/2850/2950 models in Holland where I can see and test it before I buy it. You have any idea apart from Marktplaats where we can find an unit like these?

:thmbsp:

Apart from MP and Ebay.de , I've really no idea? tweedehands.nl maybe, or our own forum, audiofreaks.nl?

The AM-2950 is hard to find for a normal price... Good luck!!

Greetz,
Rene

I no longer have any Akai gear, as I had to downsize a couple years ago, but I really loved an AM-2800/AT-2800 set that I re-capped and modified a little. Simple gear, but well made and very attractive.

Yeah, the "guys from Enschede" have an AM 2800 for nearly 500 euros. Same price for a Kenwood Model 500...

Yeah, I know them, I don't know what they put in into there gear, gold maybe?
What I do believe is that they clean, tested and repaire all there audio, before selling, and you will get the guaranty the thing is ok for the next 10 years, so it's up to you...

I have bought mine for 250,- euro's, and that's the max I think ;)

I'll wait for a cheeper one to pass, if you don't mind :)

Greetz,
Rene

Yeah, that's a really beautiful couple, I have them too..., but I think you mean the AT-2600, the AT-2800 as far as I know, it dos't exist...?

Yeah, this kind of things happen when you are not expecting. An AM 2800 will appear suddenly and from nowhere for much cheaper...

It's just part of a collection I want to build up along with some other vintage Sansui, Kenwood, Pioneer and Yamaha. All of the later with VU meters... :D

I only have two AKAI units in my collection, but they are in the "keeper" category for sure. They are an AP-206 direct drive turntable, and a GX-646 reel to reel tape deck.

In my year or so of collecting vintage audio equipment, AKAI gear just doesn't seem to show up here very often in the thrift stores or in the typical used gear marketplaces. Maybe they were sold in greater numbers (as a percentage of units sold anyway) there in Holland than here in the US. My two units are pretty paltry in comparison to the collection you have amassed Clarity GX, but I certainly enjoy them.

nice 206 treker :thmbsp:
mine was a beater with a pretty sorry lid , intermittent cables, missing badge and a few minor battle scars on the plinth. Brushed up pretty well in the end though and the pc-100 cartridge is a gem.
Here's my akai stash , 2x gx52s, aa-1175 and a pretty obscure am-u7...

I've always tended to like the unique looks and style of AKAI gear. Here's a pic of my AKAI AA-1200 monster receiver.

Thanks Melofelo. I really appreciate it. The turntable lid on my 206 was pretty scratched up when I got it, but a little wet sanding and polishing with Novus #2 Plastic Polish took care of that pretty well. I wish mine had had the pc-100 cartridge, but alas the original headshell and cartridge were missing when it came into my possession. I currently have a Shure M91ED cartridge mounted in a generic headshell installed on my 206, which do a very nice job. And the generic headshell looks a lot like the original AKAI as well, so that is certainly a bonus.

I'm keeping my eyes open for additional AKAI gear, as I would really love to find a nice GX series cassette deck to add to my collection. But as AKAI gear seems to be about as rare as hens' teeth around here, I doubt that I will ever find one. But I'll keep looking...

I got one of these cute little guys:

And I like how bright it is, can see it from a mile away. Can be used to signal boats.

The insides are very simple, clean easy to service. Cheaper amp, but very nice design.

Hello to everybody,

I have an AKAI ac3800 (it used to be my father's) and its time to decide what to do with it. I have asked the local service here in Greece but they think that it doesn't worth the trouble or the money repairing it.

I would appreciate your opinions, any idea is welcomed.

Thank you

I have an AA 940 as part of the garage setup and it works well for testing out new speaker finds, TT's etc. lots of nice clean power.

My AKAI AT-2250L (1979:)),lovely little sounding tuner with very good sensitivity and reception.
