AKAI Lovers and Collectors...

ClarityGX...what a wonderful collection you have. Congrats.

I just picked up my very first Akai amp (AM-U5) and matching tuner last week. I didn't know what to expect since I've never owned or heard any Akai but for $17.99 I took a chance. I've been pleasantly surprised. Sitting here enjoying it now with my HD600's and it sounds wonderful. :yes:

Your Nakamichi was a frontloader not a toploader as the AKAI. Those Nakamichi models were the RX-202, RX-303 and RX-505.

The AKAI and Nakamichi were not build by the same manufacturer however later after they went bankrupt the new owner bought the rights to use the brand names of AKAI, Nakamichi and SANSUI.
 
Very nice collection! I only have a couple of Akai cassette decks and a Roberts (Akai aka) R2R. I'd love to own the models in your collection. Thanks for sharing

Hallo all.
The Akai am2650 is a fantastisk amplifire, i have one too and a 2950. and a ps 200M and 120M,i have had almost all the amps there have been from 1978 to 1990,and a frev from 1991to 1999, i just love the amps from79 to mid 80,tapedeck i also have had a lot of one of thebest ,was the gx71 and the gx99.

My Akai AS1070 70watts/side 2 channel, 40 watts/side 4 channel, strongest tuner I have ever owned. And power meters!

akai lovers

Have had some nice akais over the years, but only have a gx-f31 and a cs-m02 cassette decks left, both still sound awesome:music::music:

I noticed that AA series is relatively rare on the market and in my private opinion, this series had the best design in all history of Akai. But it's only my opinion.
 
Here's a AA-R30 that I picked up for free a few weeks ago, It looks like it was well cared for and only needed a cleaning. It sounds very nice for a 38 watt receiver. looks good too.

Around 1981? I bought a low end Akai turntable very cheap and hated it, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get rid of the harmonic distortion it suffered from, I think it was the beginning of the end for Akai, I only remember them selling silver plastic after that.
 
Not too many speakers on the list so far, so I thought I'd post my lone Akai purchase:

They are SP-100's and, from what I understand, they were never imported into the US. A CL find, I bought them from the original owner who had supposedly never used them, having bought three pairs while overseas years ago and he never found a place for these. I don't have enough experience to say whether they are great, good or indifferent, but I like them a lot. My son currently uses them, he listens exclusively to jazz and classical. He likes them, too!
 
I have one set of Akai SW-TF3 Speakers that are a 3way. And I can tell you I was surprised that these lil suckers sounded as good as they do.

I just received an Akai AA-R51 from ebay, still checking it out but so far sounds wonderful.
Funny, I never even considered Akai for anything other than tape players back in the day.
 
Akai made a lot of really high quality equipment in the late 70's and early 80's.

Pictured is the all Akai setup in my office....I run it through a set of Infinity RS 4000's (Emit tweets!) and a small self-powered sub...really great sound!!

AM 2600 Integrated Amplifier
AM 2400 Tuner
CS 707D Cassetter Deck
CR 83D Eight Track Deck

All aluminum faceplates and machined knobs, with real wood housings....as beautiful to look at as is to listen to!!!

Ever since i got my GX-270D and GXC-730D i'v been looking around for more akai.
I really like the design and wood/aluminum on them, and sound good too.

I'v just sold my Pioneer MA-100 for €60 (€20 profit) and won my first TT, the AP-003 with a bid of €40.
It's had the belt and stylus replaced last year so sounds like a sweet deal to me.
No scratches or dents on it and a dust cover without cracks.

Only 1 thing to do is drive the 150km to get it ...

And maybe in the future sell the sx550 and get a akai receiver ... then i will have a full 70s akai set :)
 
i know its an old thread but i like akai
i have an am 2600 an am 2200 and an aa-r22 [kewl cause it has a balance and fader control]
i sold my old akai speakers
