All my Vinyl Crackles Wtf?

Try a correctly dampened D3 Discwasher cycle prior to play. For what ever the reason this really works well to remove the crackle. I used to have this problem with Spin Cleaned and rinsed albums I let air dry. ( micro fiber drying cloths leave lint behind I noticed ) Carbon fiber brushes did not help - only the dampened Discwasher did.

And that is the sound when the cartridge picks up static while the record is playing. Dirty records make a crackling sound that is more random because some areas are not that dirty. Static crackling is more consistent throughout the whole record.

Could be any of the following:

1.Dirty stylus
2.Misaligned cartridge
3.Static
4.Bent cantilever
5.Azimuth off
6.Dirty record
7.Left over residue from cleaning the record

Gonna try this thanks..What is a dampened D3 Cycle.....No brush?
 
I was having the same issue for a few days recently, i had started doing a light dusting of albums with a microfiber cloth before playing. It was a great way to build up static. Went back to a discwasher type velvet brush for pre play dusting and problem solved.

Went back and proved it out by wiping with MF and playing, heard the static. Then took the zerostat to the same album and put it right back on and played it and the static was gone.

Thanks. I'll see if I can find an affordable zerostat gun.
 
What I want to know is where does the dirt go when you use a discwasher brush to (clean ) records. If you don't have a way of removing the dirt like a vacuum then all you are doing is moving the dirt. As far as records go moving dirt is the opposite of removing dirt.

The dust tends to stick to the velvet on the brush. Also most people roll it back and feather it off the record when finishing. It doesn't get everything but better than nothing.

Who vacuums their records before each play? I haven't seen anybody doing that.
 
The vintage, classic Discwasher has a "one way" fabric with little "hook-y" fibers. They catch surface dust in one direction, but can be cleanded by rubbing 'against the grain', so to speak.
Those of us of a certain age know that the proper way to clean the Discwasher brush of dust after cleaning a record is to back wipe it firmly - but not too firmly (and, of course, with a twist) - against the thigh of one's well worn jeans.
It's a best practice.

Later, Discwasher started including a little red plastic brush to clean the pad/fabric a little more deeply.

I had an similar issue at an apartment I rented. I took my then table into the local dealer along with one of the worst offending albums and hooked it to one of their systems. The record played flawlessly with only one pop.

Found out the air in the apartment was way too dry... I bought a humidifier and problem solved.
