Allison CD5 - any info?

I've got the Allison marketing document for the launch of the CD series from 1985. It has info on the CD 6 through CD 8, but no CD 5.
It says the CD 6 and CD 7 are "better than ever" and the CD 8 and CD 9 are new.
So I expect the CD 5 is from the earlier version of the CD series.
Not helping you much, but that's all I know.
I own the CD 8 speakers and they sound fantastic.

I saw the ad about 4 hours after it was posted. So I didn't even bother. I just figured they were long gone by that point!
I had wondered if it was an AK'er who got them, or was it the garbageman?

Are you sure they are "CD" series?
Could they be something like "Allison Fives?"
For example -- I have both a pair of CD8s (mini tower-type) and "regular" Allison Eights.

The dark speakers in the foreground are the Allison Eights. Maybe the Allison Fives (if that is what they are) look similar. For $50 I'd grab them in a heartbeat!

Wow, no if I'd seen that ad I'd have been on them in a heartbeat! I hope they went to a good home...
I dunno, checked classicspeakerpages, have googled extensively, don't find any info on CD5's. I've emailed the guy asking for pics, if I discover anything more I'll post again.

I doubt that there's an Allison speaker in existence that ain't worth $50.
Sadly, I turned down a pair of AL-115 once for $39. I just didn't know...

I did the same thing a few months ago. I forget, either AL-115, or AL-120 for $20.00. Who knew?

Allison CD5
About the Allison CD5 (advertised in the NYC craigslist this past weekend for $50). I saw the ad too (on Sunday).
They turned out to be CD7s.
I know, because I am the lucky guy who drove 100 miles (each way) from Pennsylvania today in light snow and bought the pair.
The speakers look fine but the woofers need to be re-foamed, and the grilles on one need to be replaced (the tweeters are yet to be tested). Finding the grilles is going to be a challenge.
My actual costs (gas, driving, tolls, parking, etc.) were a lot higher than the $50 asking price.
Nevertheless, the speakers are priceless (at least to me) and for some of you too. I really appreciate the seller putting them on craigslist, trusting a non-local buyer, and even assisting with transporting (the speakers to my car parked a block away). He is the original owner, but had forgotten the model number.
With this acquisition, I now have three pairs of CD7s. The ones I bought new (in 1987?) are in good shape, except for the front grille on one. The pair I picked up from a friend last week (for free)—after another long drive—is in sad shape: The cabinets are OK, but the woofers need re-foaming; both tweeters are blown; all the grilles are gone. (The speakers had been worked over by a toddler and a cat!) Now, this pair, as described above.
Now I, along with others in AK, am after genuine Allison replacement parts. The new Allison website is a mirage. Try sending an email to them; it will bounce back.
I will begin a slow and steady research into audio stores in Natick (Massachusetts) or Danville (Kentucky); the former was home to the original Allison factory; the latter was home to the “new” (now-also-dead) Allison factory. Perhaps somebody at either locale has stashed away boxes of grilles, woofers, and tweeters.
Hope springs eternal!
What am I going to do with three pairs? Fixing them is my fixation. After that, I may trade a pair (plus some dollars) for a functioning CD-9. If I can’t fix them in a year or two, I’ll just give at least one pair free to another AK member whose Allison syndrome is more advanced than mine!

These Allisons do sound "different". And I mean different in a good way.
The mids and highs seem to wrap around you, not forward sounding, just very detailed and musical.
I found some CD-8 speakers at a garage sale this summer and these have become total "keepers" in my small collection of speakers.

I can't complain too much, however. It was between the Allisons and another pair of unnamed "Polk floorstanding speakers" I saw on Craigslist. On sunday, since I hadn't heard back from the seller, I opted for the Polks and got a pair of Monitor 10A's for $30. One tweeter blown, but a replacement is on the way. I'm happy!
