I feel the same way. People buy junk, it's just how it is these days but why drag old names through the mud while selling it. It's not like the 15-20 year old who's looking at stuff like this has fond memories of his grandfathers Crosley or Altec or whatever. They have no idea what any of these companies were so it's not like there's any brand equity. It seems like the only purpose is to piss off collectors of the gear from the good years.
Just name it something cool sounding and let it be.

I do understand - after refurbing that pair of Heathkit Altec Lansing Valencias over the last 6 months, I am quite impressed by what they are. Sad part is, Altec Lansing went out of business, sold the company 2 or 5 times, parted out various parts of the company to different firms, and now some POS crapo company churns out this kind of garbage under a once grand name.
Just like Indian Motorcycles - who they are now is only tenuously connected to who they were in the 50s.
And its possible, now that CEO Dinesh Paliwali sold Harman to Sampsung, Harman may go the same route some time in the future ...
Not much you can do about such things - just - inform your friends and family so they don't get tricked into buying such junk due to a former good name.

Asian company names don't always translate well to western words, is one reason, the other is that the old brand names give the product some perceived "respectability" when seen by either members of the present generation or older generation that assumes it's the same company they bought products from 50 years ago. Like many things the seller is counting on the buyers ignorance of what they are purchasing.
This thing has 30W stereo speakers? I'd like to see 15 continuous watts put into each side (not that the tiny internal chip can actually do that, so we'd need an actual amp). But when the flames go out, properly dispose of the remains.
Or, put it out when it starts to melt, and mold it into a caster base for a pair of A-7s so you can move em around the basement.

It's not a changer, and neither company developed it. That crappy "turntable" mechanism has been around since the '80s when it was used in Yorx and other bottom of the barrel all-in-ones. And, it's not really OK for much of anything. As light as it is, it wouldn't even make a good paperweight.
Lol I didn't want to totally trash it out. This is a situation where I would welcome the tried and true ol' BSR changer-banger from the late '70's. Who would ever think that those crafts would dominate other tables???

If I were a Billionaire, I'd buy this Altec Lansing up. and close it down. And I'd donate the trademark to Great Plains Audio, the REAL and GENUINE Altec Lansing Corporation. Who needs it back, so Altec can really be Altec Lansing. And I'd buy University Sound from whoever has it, and JBL from Samsung, so those companies could by way of Great Plains Audio be reunited with their real selves. I'd also buy Crown from Samsung, and give that trademark back to AE Techron and Crown would then be real Crown again. And we'd have no fakes from companies who made excellent products professional users could rely on.
