My friend ended up buying them. He said they are big and heavy, which is usually good. A dome tweeter and mid-range on the front baffle a rear firing tweeter on the back and a down firing woofer. He is going to send me pictures and I will post them later today. They sound interesting if nothing else.
I finally got some picture of these speakers from my friend. I have absolutely no clue who or what they are. I was originally thinking home brew but there is a tag on the terminal plate for a serial number. The woofer, which he believes is a 12", is down firing. We are hoping somebody out there knows what they are, other than speakers of course.
I bought a pair a while ago someone had installed a set of 2402 tweeters in - The speakers were super heavy but sounded terrible - I removed the 2402's and the 4" mids and tossed the rest.
I'm not even sure those are dome tweeters. I've seen some recent designs using a protruding tube over an HF element, but these are way too old for that technology. So could your friend pull out the drivers to see what they are or who may have made them? Both the front and rear "tweeters" are something I've not seen before. I suspect the mid is the ubiquitous CTS 4 inch midrange.
I am also curious as to what they are and I would like to hear them. Unfortunately our schedules have conflicted lately. I may be able to get over there this afternoon?
70s era was known for some nice cabinets with decent drivers and little or nothing spent on crossovers, and either no name or an obscure name. For a couple more bucks they could have got more out of them. Anyway if you like these at all they will benefit from some new crossover capacitors.
One thing is that these cabinets are nice and lend themselves to redesign with new drivers and crossover, if you're in to DIY.
