Is there a pic of the compression driver.

Smells like Electrovoice to me.

The bass cabinet is positively EV.

Can't say what the horn is for sure, EV or Community would be my bet.

Google EV TS940 and see what you get.

I've had a similar JBL theater set up. You'll need a big room to really get the best out of them with very little power.

I have one word for their use in a small room: Earschplittenloudenboomer!

Call me crazy but I would be willing to bet they are EV TS 940Ds

These are crazy! Little bit of water damage on the bottom of the cabinet and the surrounds have all come unglued but that's easy. Voice coils seem good, they move without any noise when I push on them.

You can see what a little orange paint can do. Those EV DH1A drivers are as fine as it gets they are true S.O.T.A. compression drivers nothing equals them even today you will not find a better more powerful driver at any price. You have found a real pot of gold. Enjoy for the rest of your life. Best regards Moray James.


PS: Bob Crites now offers upgrade capacitors and full rebuilds for EV networks if you would rather have the work professionally done and tested.

PPS: you might also take the time and experiment with some 25 -30 PPI (pores per inch) open cell foam in the parallel section of the horn throat. This will help to lower distortion, you can also extend the foam into the throat of the DH1A and see what you think.

Great find! I think you'll find they work quite swell in smaller rooms too. If it's too loud for a smaller room, turn the volume down

I bought them for my uncle to use in his shop. It's about 3000sqft and right now he just has some missions in there.
My wife would kill me if I tried to put those in my living room so I'll just have to enjoy them when I visit.
His amp is a Quad 303 that's 50 watts, I told him that would be good for these as they should be super efficient, am I right?
Also how do you wire these? Looks like the one crossover runs both speakers.

I pretty much stole them I think, two bills seems like a screaming deal to me.

The Quad will be fine but it is very old and very much will need new electrolytic capacitors as in full rebuild because it is ready to die of extreme old age. You need to have one crossover per speaker if you are missing one of the 504 look for another they come up often they too will require fresh electrolytic capacitors. These things date back to the late seventies early eighties. Superb deal absolutely amazing good for you. Best regards Moray James.

I'm a bit of a quad fan. I have 3 405s right now (2 working) and a pair of Quad II's that are being rebuilt right now. I was thinking these might be cool with the II's until I saw how big they were. That just wouldn't fly at home.

So I need a second crossover? That's a bummer, I wonder how they were set up before.

You did well. As for the crossovers....you may want to consider going active crossover with two amps. Seems to make a significant difference at least to me in the quality of sound. However, sourcing or building a second crossover (or new pair) might be simpler and more inexpensive for you in the end.
