Are Pioneer Dial Pointers Created Equal?

what is the axa-015 off of? the AAF-031 is strictly for the 939.
Pioneer (http://parts.pioneerelectronics.com) shows the axa-015 as a dial pulley.

I have a Pioneer SX 838 with a broken off pointer as well. The part number in the manual for the pointer assembly in the parts breakdown on page 21 of the manual says the part number is AAF-031-A, So I'm confused as to what I really need. It doesn't look like it would be easy to just replace the pointer as the lamp housing is glued to the dial string.
So what people are doing is replacing the next higher assy which includes the string, pointer , lamp housing and all. But I can't seem to locate any of that stuff. Pioneer does not make it any more. and The p/n does not come up on their database.
Any idea where I might find such an animal? Otherwise I'm just gonna hang an LED off the front of the lamp housing and try to make it look pretty!

Tillerman6. The only reason the glue is used between the dial pointer assy and the dial string is the metal clips on the assy hold on to the string and the glue is there to prevent slippage. The clips can be bent back slightly and the string pulled out. Then remove the pointer assy from the 838. The lamp is a 8V grain of wheat bulb....probably 50ma. It's glued to the underside of the assy, and can be pried off provided you are very careful. AK'er DGWOJO (www.dgwojo.com) has most every lamp needed for PIONEER's and should have the bulb in stock. Glue the new bulb in place and route the wiring the same way as original.
Setting up the dial pointer on the dial. Turn the tuning knob counter clockwise until it hits the stops. Mount the dial pointer assy and route the string thru the clips and crimp them. Align the pointer to the dial at the ZERO POINT (0) on the logging scale between the AM and FM scales. Glue the string to the assy with a dab of nail polish (the latest thing is Jennifer Love Hewitt Pink
) Connect the lamp wiring and if ok close it up.

Chains91, I have the same issue. I have a broken (lost) plastic dial pointer for a SX-939 rebuild. I was also wondering if I could by an AAF-007 and just use the amber pointer but I have no idea if it will work. What did you end up doing?
SCsoundguy. You can use the pointer off a SX-1010 as the 939 and 1010 are identical in the front panels and dial. Same part #. I used the front panel, and the dial parts, including the pointer from a 1010 when I rebuilt my 939.

Thanks Larry. The Pioneer parts website did not give that cross reference. I'll be on the look out for pointers from both models.

Which is why I checked the Service manuals for both. Most small parts won't come up on the Pioneer parts site.
