Are these real EPI speakers?

I have been cruising around over at Human but I have been unable to identify the model of these speakers. Can some one help me out? My hangup is the solid black cabs. I have not seen any other EPIs like this.

Yes, these are EPI cabinets and speakers but late in the life cyle after being purchased by Harmon and the last series to use the EPI logo. Gone is the inverted dome "Airspring" Tweeter and the classis 6" wool paper "long throw" mid woofer that made EPI a classic. Look for the M50, 70 and A70 models to stay within the classic line up - I believe this an EPI A70 series 3 model if I remember correctly( Note how the logo is of a different font compared to the late EPI logo).

I believe the Harman era speakers were not particularly good, they used polycarbonate tweeters.There's a pair of Harman EPI 100s on eBay right now if you want to see what they look like inside. Check auction #231754619469 (no affiliation). They bear almost no relation to the original EPIs.

The answer to your question is no, they are not real EPI speakers.

As noted above these were made long after EPI ceased to exist as it was originally, which was about 1978. These are just another nickel ninety eight paper weight with an EPI logo stuck on the front. I wouldn't give 5 bucks for them.

If you want a real EPI speaker look for models 50, 100, 150, 201, 202, 20, 20+, 400, 400+, 1000.

What's with the port on the back? Definitely not even close to the original EPI design.

Just noticed that the address on the back matches that of JBL's. Probably made in the same factory.

IIRC, those were EPI magnums or something like that. They had a horn loaded tweeter and were pretty cheaply made as others have said.

Nope, not Magnus. I had a pair of the 1st generation of Magnus and while they weren't that good, they weren't the same. Check out the ebay auction I mentioned above.

The grills on the ebay auction look a bit different. I think you are in the ballpark though.

EPI A1100 speakers any good? I have a pair sitting in the pile here. I never got around to hooking them up. I have a feeling they were built after they were bought out.

If I'm not mistaken, A1100 is the second generation of the Magnus line. Probably not any better than the ones I had.

After extensive research I identified them by the logo as belonging to the Epicure 2/3 series according to Human from 1991-3 and definitely a Harman era product which is to say likely to be mediocre at best.

I talked to the owner, and he swears they say 100 under the grills.

The 100 on the speakers is probably the right price. 100 cents.

According to him he can see a 100 under the glued on grill but is unable to get the grill off.

They could well be Epicure 100 Series 2/3 because the ID is located under the grill, which is removable by the way according to Human Speakers site and date to the 1990's. Definitely no relation in quality to the original EPI 100.
