Are these speakers worth re-foaming the woofers?

My son got these free and I have them. Need to re-foam them. Anyone hear of these?

Thanks,

Question I have is if the tweeters have ferrofluid in them or not. How does the mid surround look? Cabinets look like real wood veneer, so mid to upper end for the time. You can disconnect the woofers and hook them up to see if mid and tweeters are working. A 2" diameter cardboard tube, or one from a paper towel roll, can be used to isolate the mid and tweeter for your ear. But would not hurt to take a tweeter out and remove the voice coil to check for old ferrofluid, but if they are stuck in dried fluid some WD40 sprayed into the VC can loosen up the old fluid O/N.

If you need the practice and a new pair of speakers for the garage or back yard party; highly unlikely they would displace any of your current speakers, whatever they may be.

They are for your son to learn to refoam.
Yes good set to learn how to refoam ! And if the tweeters are ok great if not there cheap enough to source and replace ! Did a set of old Jenson bookshelf speakers for my step son and cleaned and rebulbed a lower power technics for him made a nice little system !

Need a backside shot. Labeling, type of connectors. Saw a pair of Cygnus speakers in the local mega-thrift long ago, they were quite beaten up, but I think they were built to imitate the appearance of something of a higher grade than they actually were.
You (or son) can, as mentioned, refoam for practice & economy, stick 'em in garage or use for outside or other high-risk uses. If they get beaten up, no big loss. However, if mids &/or tweets are shot, I'd not waste any more time other than salvaging magnets, they have many other uses.

Thanks for the replies. I may re-foam them just to see how they sound. Will test the tweeters and mids first.

Thanks,
Perry

Have had good luck with simpler speakers great to deal with !

Yes, always repair such beautiful old speakers. I did it once with some 45 year old Akai woofers and I found an Akai lover who bought them and he rebuild the speaker cabinets. Not a fortune project only fun and now I know how to do it.
