Ariston RD 11s - Gratis! What should I do?

Odd that yours shows a 1978/1975 date as the RD11 does not match date wise.

If you look at my label you'll notice it says RD11 and no mention of Dunlop. But my top plate says RD11s, weird!
 
Here's what my bearing on the spindle looks like.

Can I ask? There are two holes a each end of the brace/power panel. I've noticed on Linn setups these are screwed into the wood in addition to the screws holding down the brace. Does anyone think it would be worth screwing these down for additional stiffness?

Just checking. I didn't take a picture before I removed the screws that the springs mount on to (stupid boy!). I'm replacing the corroded originals with new stainless steel m5 screws. I had to remove a tiny bit of metal from each screw hole as the originals were imperial measure screws, but they now fit snugly.

Am I right in thinking that the m5 nut is screwed all the way to the base plate? I think that is right but just wanted to verify before all that turning! :)

I haven't had mine apart yet so can't answer your question, By the way is your belt a square profile
or a flat type?

Oh dear, I knew I should have taken more pictures! :( I'm at the stage of reattaching the Mission 774 arm but I did not take any pictures of the screws used to attach the cable to the base of the arm. I thought they were the same as those used for the cartridge mounting but on trying to fit the cable socket the screw does not fit. Just hoping I have not damaged the hole in trying to get it to fit. Don't understand where I've gone wrong as they were the only screws left over, but can anyone identify the correct screw type for me?

The screws/bolts I'm after are the little ones either side of the soldering of the cables, top left and right. Anyone know the correct size/description? Thanks :)
 
Right! Sorry for not posting since the 1st, my wife has been unwell. Got some time at the turntable last night and just got very frustrated! I initially reassembled everything, balanced the arm etc., then tried my first record, a 12inch 45. The belt would not stay on no matter how much adjustment to the spring height I tried. I had replaced the original springs and bolts with new Linn springs and stainless steel bolts and nuts. I also added a ptfe washer to improve the original ball and spindle set up, so it raised the platter by perhaps a millimeter. I've tried various distances for the bolt spring height but the only way to get the belt to stay on is to set them at their longest, with the nut barely attached. even then the belt won't stay for more than a couple of turns. Any shortening of the compression seems to raise the height of the platter and the belt comes off. The 33 rpm setting is slightly better but belt still won't stay on. Any ideas guys?

I may have to go back to the original springs and see if they will work. The only other thing I've noticed is that guy who I got this from set the arm up in such a way as that the base of the arm touches the plinth at certain heights. I'll add some pictures tonight.
 
Were your new springs much different in length than the originals?
Since there were so many small changes to the early RDII/RDIIs models
is there any way to change the height of your drive pulley and or the motor spindle
height?
 
Springs didn't seem very different in size, definitely stiffer though. The annoying thing is I tried it literally after reassembly and at 33 it worked, now it won't! No way to change the height up, only downwards I believe as the rubbers separating it from the plinth are very thin.
 
Spent some more time on this last night. managed to get the 33 speed to play. Only getting sound through one channel so will need to check all my soldering tonight. Still cannot get the 45 setting to work though. Additionally would love to remount the arm as I'm sure it's not installed properly. Anyone got a spare arm board? Or know anyone who makes them, say from mahogany? Thanks for all your help guys, keeps me trying! :)
