Yes they are, and I believe early AU-919's were fitted with the spring clip type.
Yes, this is the 'before' - the upgrade is in progress now.John, are you planning an upgrade - is this the before?...and after to come?

You can put 5 way binding posts on that unit if your tech has access to a CNC machine. That's my plan for my 717

Upgrading those is the one thing I wish I'd known to ask for when I had my 919 refurbished.

Nice. Looks like it would be a fairly straightforward project. I have to pull my 919 out again when I have the enthusiasm to deal with an intermittent ribbon cable problem. Think I will upgrade the speaker terminals at the same time. I hate the originals...would much prefer even spring clip terminals over those abominations. Have them on a Yamaha A1000 as well. I guess they were sold as an improvement to the spring clip or screw types, but I would disagree. Big fan of five-way terminals like these Keystone parts.

And now the finished job.
The binding posts used were made by Superior Electric and are BP31-10R & BP31-10B - unfortunately these aren't made anymore. I bought 2 sets of the last ones available some years ago, I used one set on my AU-D11 II, and kept the other set (as above) for an amplifier that deserves them.
I made a mounting plate from black acrylic very much like the one shown in post #16 - marking out and drilling this plate accurately is crucial to success with this method.
I was spurred on to do this because I recently upgraded my speaker cables to 4mm sq (cross sectional area) cable with 4mm banana plugs, I made the cables up myself. But of course I didn't want to use wire ends anymore, so this in turn triggered a binding post bonanza! as I have also done my AU-X1 as well. But with ebay sourced binding posts, (eBay: 392753255843) as these have a significantly different mounting method in the AU-X1 and are effectively 'drop in' replacements to account for this. I couldn't use the above binding posts as their threaded portion is too big diameter-wise and also too short length-wise.
The new speaker cable has taken my system up a notch, and has made a significant improvement to my listening experience.
