Audio Karma Glossary

L-pad - A knob on the back of a speaker usually used to control the tweeter or horn. It is actually a rheostat in the crossover circuit, and the L stand for Losser. Think of it as a volume control for your tweeters.

I seriously feel the need to add that scroe is not only a mispelling of score, but one that brings a lot of frowns around here. It's stupid, and way over used. It needs to die..

I also don't see QFT = Quoted for Truth

Thanks for adding to the definitions. It certainly helped overcome a personal level of ignorance. For L-pad, I kept picturing an L-shaped device, but I had never seen one on a speaker. Now that I've seen the definition, I have a few.

I'll leave scroe in the definitions for now, because a there are plenty who will wonder what it is when they read a post, but maybe enough will read the thread to understand the concerns as well.

No problem.. but I'm trying to figure out what a colume control is... DOH!!!! :headslap:

I'll fix that in my post.. LOL..

Ya coulda fooled me. Good thing I hadn't done the cut and paste yet.

BTW, everyone, the glossary will be full of plagairized definitions. No room to attribute everything.

CDP - CD player (I know, it's anathema to lots of folks here)
Transport - CDP used to pick up the bits off the disc, but then those bits are sent to an external or offboard DAC.
DAC - Digital to Analog Converter (turning those 1s and 0s into something your amp can work with)

Just found this thread

I had to laugh at myself because I was just over in the digital docs posting about a manual,I almost used WTF for wanted to find:saywhat:
