Audire Audio Components

Yes, that has reminded me that I was told the same thing about this Andante. It was built only for MC. The loadings should be easy to determine. My cartridges are all MC now, and I doubt I would switch back to MM; are you thinking you might?

Any chance of a better photo?

I'd probably just find an external MM phono stage. - It's pretty much what I've done for the few MM carts that I might use ( It's a sonic frontiers unit) I also have an Audire POCO and Diffet 2 in my hoard of gear.

My primary preamps/phonostages are ( the lovely and talented) Viva Audio LF1 - It's also MC only, the sonic frontier line 3 + SFP-1 phono stage,

Here's an Old photo of the LF1 . (on top)

This image is of an LF1 that someone outside of the USA posted

I have to reverse myself on my statement about the Andante. When I replied that it was built with only MC capability, that was based on misremembering an old conversation, colored by your comment about your Diffet 3. When I replied, I had the circuit boards out of the case, and so wasn't paying proper attention to the switches and jacks. In fact, the Andante has both MM and MC circuits. So now I really don't know how the two dip switches are supposed to be set, except that they may be for gain and/or loading. It was used with an MC cartridge, and the switches are both set to On. If I have to open it up again I'll investigate further.

Here are a couple of photos of the Andante.

My tech told me that the dip switches are for the mc loading, that there is no switch to go between mm/mc

@Bostown told me that as far as he knows the Diffet 3 was built as a mm or mc

My tech thinks can add a 4PDT switch that would allow me to swap between mm/mc

Beautiful looking set up Bostown

I'll ask my tech to send me a few more pics

Almost all of the carts I run are MC. I frequently run them through a SUT into the mm jacks whether it be a phono stage or a preamp

:bigok:

So the Diffet 3 doesn't have dedicated MM and MC inputs like the Diffet 2? I've never seen a Diffet 3 up close, but that's surprising.

Many preamps only have 1 phono input to begin with and those are commonly MM, even many that sport 2 inputs may NOT have the option of MM and MC ( although some do). sonically the Diffet 3 and 2 are too close to call. - I wouldn't say that one is better than the other, I think they are both solid performers. They do have some circuit and feature and build / weight difference. If i recall the 2 is a bit more weighty overall.

Due to a coming move I now installed my Audire Forte (MOSFet version) to drive my Infinity QLS's all by its own which it does without problems.
Transformers were wired in series to use a 230 Volts AC line by the former owner, but I reversed it back to its original state and use it as intended with the two Eaton circuitbreakers (On/Off switches) in action.
Strangely enough it sounded better this way (stepdown needed of course) but it sounds good anyway this little powerhouse.
With 152,000 uF operating at 56 Volts it has almost 240 Joules stored energy, which is amazing for such a small solidstate amp.
I can hartly recommend this amp also for tough loads.

Those are the dip switches, but I don't know what combination you should use. My Mandate is set to both switches on for MC cart. Can you take a high resolution photo and post that, please? I'd like to compare it to this unit.

Sorry about the delay @GKTAUDIO

Rather than adding a 4PDT switch for MM or MC I had the tech leave that part of the board as simple as possible. The 5ohm or 40 ohm settings are perfect for most of my cartridges

I got the Diffet 3 back today. All I can say is I inderstand what the hype is all about. Last week I received a Koetsu Rosewood Signature Platinum that had just been rebuilt by Koetsu. I've been enjoying it through an Ortofon ST-80SE into the mm of a Herron phono stage into a CJ-55 preamp.

Magical!!!

Now I was able to bypass the SUT and the Herron and feed it directly into the Diffet 3. This too is truly magical. I started out at the 40 ohm setting (that's where the tech had it) and it seemed a little bright. So, flipped the 2 dip switches to 5 ohm and it's perfect to my ears

In the picture the switches were set to 40 ohms. The notes on the circuit board were a little hard to read.

Thanks again @Bostown for giving me the opportunity to get this

Glad that it found a good home and some Longevity and performance TLC. I may end up going that route with my Diffet 2 at some point. but there are still far too many pre-amps hanging around my place that I should put up for adoption before I get to the Audire.

Great to hear, SRS735. Thanks for the photos. Any chance you have a better photo of the pots? They aren't the same as those in my Andante, which are bad and need replacement. If you don't, did your tech replace these, or would he have taken note of them?

I was was doing a routine search on the interwebs for Audire gear a while ago and found an Otez for sale, in case anyone is looking.

The one I saw is on AG
Same one as the unit listed in the subscribers forum (Bartertown) here on AudioKarma.

I plan on an overhaul of my Otez along with a new custom faceplate (or so that's the plan). Might not happen until late next year though. it's one of my favorite amps and gives my McIntosh MC500 a break from it's regular duties as needed.

Bostown; how extensive will be your overhaul? Are transistors still available for these?
Sungear; what all did you do to your Otez? Looks good.

Right now I have a pair of imf being driven by a luxman I have tried many amps; pioneer, sansui, Yamaha, WO phase linear, MARANTZ, and a few others mostly power amplifiers and nothing gives these imf the sound that luxman have. Any comparison on luxman vs the audire amps? Mine is the l-450 at 60 watts. Give depth soundstage details in every area while maintaining a smooth sound. Any recommendations if audire doesn’t best the luxman?

I want to you the uf present in the Audire forte and do the upgrades that I thought I had read. Something about changing the gain cards with newer ones improving power output, the uf storage, distortion etc. does anyone know anything about this? As I said just trying to up the amount of uf the filter caps are mainly but heard there were other upgrades I could do to the forte to improve its performance.
