Aux911DG Problem

Hi Jeff,
Sorry to say that life has got in the way of this project. I have had some health problems, and that has caused problems and more stress with my job, and unbelievibly the amp is still open on my workbench waiting for me to do the scope work. I have spent a small fortune on tools and equiptment, and I am determined to finish this, but I just cant face it in my present state of mind. Its not something that I can do in several steps, I really need to approach this with a clear mind, and full concentration, and finish it once and for all. Iv'e been using my AUG-77X II for music duties in my main system, and Iv'e kinda gotten used to it, but I miss the polished performance of the Aux-911 DG. Anyway hopefully I can get back to it soon, and of course I will post an update then.
Kind Regards, Vince.

Hi Vincent, Sorry to hear of your struggles health wise. My x777DG is fully functional after doing the belt change. I opened up my newly acquired x607Extra to do practice run on the belt(they are very close internally). I still have the x607Extra under open heart surgery as you see from another thread it is a bit of a basket case. The belt change on the x777DG took my under an hour thanks to you, JOMARK911 and Hyperion John. I hope you can get the x911DG going soon, I can tell you the x777DG Japanese model is something to behold, it is a model with a remarkable sweet-spot if you get it matched with the right speakers. My speakers are made locally in Chiangmai by a close enthusiast. Our tweeters are made almost entirely from coconuts, coconut wood and coconut fibre under a very strict handmade manufacturing process. The warmth and yet natural sound we get is like nothing I have ever heard. I should market these speakers, I will have to think of a name for them. Maybe drop back here more often, it looks like a real nice group who have you and your Sansui at heart. Hope you can ride out the health issues and hit to ground running soon, I am sure you have got it in you. Best of Wishes, Jeff

Hi Vincent,

Get well soon. I hope you will fixed the selector issue soon and let me know how actually you solved it. My 911Dg still has the problem, due to that i cant use the amplifier tone control and loudness features. Distortion in one of the channel.
Hi Rasenthiran,

Did you do the belt change? I can tell you it is quite easy if you have a bit of mechanical inkling. I am in Thailand and are happy to get on Line app or Facetime to answer any questions that I can if you need to give it a go. I am not an electrician of any sorts, so trouble shooting on the electrical boards and transformers is not my area.

Hi jay,

I sent for belt change, it pass 4 months and the technician is still changing it,he is very busy rite now.

If you want ask for it back from the technician, I will walk you through the process. Unless he is a Sansui guy there is a good chance you will do it better than him. The guidance these guys here have given is way passed what a normal technician is going to know. The best knowledge is experience and this forum is spade loads. I could spare some time during an afternoon to walk you through it. Honestly, with only a couple of tools you can get it done. Its easier than changing a tire on a car. The only proviso I have is that I can't help with anything electrical, only mechanical components which this is.

apologies for reviving an old thread...

got myself the jdm version (alpha 777dg) and i only recently "discovered" the magic of "digital direct". absolutely love it! i. having a bit of an issue though. i noticed that when on digital direct, i get a bit of imbalance between left and right channels. no drop outs, but the right channel is noticeably quieter than the left. any idea on what may be causing this? no issues when the knob is set to "source" or "off".

Hi guys, on the off chance anyone is still reading and able to reply - what size is the belt? I can no longer use my beloved AU-X911DG on anything except the optical in.

I have used a series of belts over the year. The belts which have lasted the longest were silicone based not rubber based like the originals. The diameter of the belts range from 21mm to 24mm. The reason why not one specific diameter is suitable as it depends on the elasticity of the belt you are able to purchase. The thickness of the belt should be under 1mm. That is as accurate as I can be.

Thanks @jayjayjayjay. I spent the morning disassembling and having a look at all this. Really nice bit of gear!

Best measurement I could get for the existing belt diameter was 24mm. The belt had a noted 'memory' so wouldn't lay perfectly, I guess it must be around 30 years old.

Given the time of year and the difficulties finding parts at the best of times due to Covid I did something that mightn't please everyone as a temporary workaround and applied some of this stuff to the belt:

Anyway, the amp is back together, all jacks DeOxit-ed and all functions are selectable again. I will endeavour to buy some replacement square section belts around 20-24mm to find a 'best fit'; this is purely a temporary solution, but ultimately no music over Christmas was/is definitely not an option.

Cheers again!

My guess is that will not work for too long. But as you have found out now the mechanism doesn’t take long to access. So I am glad you will have a month or so good music listening while waiting for the bands. My suggestion is to buy 5 or 6 options and try to one that best fit. It is not exactly a precise science. Well done.

Hey everyone,

I have followed this post many times even before I had any issues with my AU 911DG which I purchased second hand, but... didnt have issues until like 2 days ago... the symptoms seem to all be around what has been mentioned here! channel drops... etc. so now what happens is : I have it on Tuner when it is switched on, but I have a channel drop, until I hit tape-3 and then tape-1 again, usually this is sufficient to bring the channels both back up. sometimes I need to do some more tape cycling clicking.

I am using Source Direct as if I use the Off, there is always one channel dropped.
I am guessing belt needs changing but I think I also have the issue of finding a bloody thing that can last for a long time? any links to any shops you can send out? I am in Portugal, europe ... I understand the diameter is 22mm and 1.4m thick and by what I read should not be rounded?

a question is - when I open it up - how to I change the belt. is there any tension expected? I really dont want to mess it up :/ if its something just like taking one belt and putting another I think I can handle that... plus deoxid the switches...

I am so looking for your guys expertise as I am scared to death to ruin it ...

Was able to change the belt with the instructions from the forum . I have only one small issue to be fair - when changing from source to tapes 1, 2, 3 etc sometimes have dropped channels but swapping between tap 1-source or tape2-source brings back both channels . Any clue what could be ?

Rubber belt changed. This one was 20mm and for the first time Digital-4 now gets selected … so I’m happy but still not sure why the tapes drop channels when shifted
