Aux911DG Problem

Vincent while you are there deoxit every switch at least twice. Source direct is giving you hard time but there is the problem . If you insist you'll get it done and will have the off position available along with the tone controls and loudness. Just insist . It will clear eventually.

Hi John,
just spent a few hours working hard on the selector switch and all other switches.
Now with an Analogue source, and "Digital Direct" set to off, I still only have one channel, but the tone, loudness and balance controls are working. do you think I should work on the gears at the back again?

Hi Vincent,

Thanks for the pictures, it is very helpful. I do think you should also deoxit the other selector such as the bass, treble, tone and loudness button. This is because sometimes when i on/off the tone selector,my both channel will be working. I thinks it all applies for tone/loudness circuit when the selector is position to "off". Is there anyway to deoxit the selector without taking the front face plate?

Hi Raj,
I HAVE Deoxited ALL The controls, several times, but with the Loudness and Tone controls it's pretty much impossible to do much cleaning because of where they are positioned. As for all the other controls, unfortunately you have to remove the faceplate to gain access to them, even then it's still very hard to get the Deoxit into them. I found the best way is to use a syringe with a long needle to inject the Deoxit into the tiny access holes.

Thanks Vincent, Looks like it will be a tough job for me since i have never done a complicated task like this before.Hope you can solve the drop out channel issue soon.

No Vincent , once you opened up and cleaned the area beneath the gears and the source selecting process is done correctly no. Something else is preventing your channel from working. Maybe it's time you take it to someone with further knowledge and an oscilloscope to further investigate the problem. But try the switches you haven't deoxit . Try to inject some deoxit in them. That might be it. All switches.

Ok, I finally got some of the Aerosol Deoxit, so I'll blast the f@#k out of all the controls, and then work them all back and forth, and give it a day to dry out before re-testing.

I never tried a task like this before either Raj. You're just waiting to see if I destroy my Amp, before you try it yourself. Ha Ha!, but honestly, if I end up fixing this myself, then it's definitely something that you could do yourself. Thank God for decent guys like JOMARK9II who's willing to share his expertise with mere mortals like ourselves.

I do agree with you Vincent, I do need jomark and all others in AK Sansui forums help to keep my Sansui amplifier stay healthy and keep working for years to come. I have learn so much from this forum, but I am not wiling to take risk doing it my self afraid I will make it worst or simply destroy it . Our Sansui amps are getting old and the parts are very rare specially in my country. This is only the second AU X911DG I came to know in my place. Earlier there is one for sale but I could not afford the price. Bought this unit half of the price which made me a good bargain.

Ok before you apply the deoxit , do something I want you to. Connect an analog source to let's say LINE input , have source direct switch off and turn balance to the channel that doesn't work. Play with all switches and controls and gradually increase volume. Exercise volume to it's end several times , by it self without fiddling with other controls , just to make sure it's not the pot. I know you have deoxit it but do this. Then set it at 12 o'clock and play with all other switches again , processor switch included. There must be an interruption of a switch in the pre amp since in the digital direct you're feeding the signal direct to poweramp bypassing the preamp.
Oh and something else, try to connect a turntable to the phono input and tell me what happens , source direct off and then source.

As for the differences between 999dg and 777-911dg , the first one had a bit bigger chassis a bigger transformer and larger capacitors in the power supply bank.
Funny thing though is that all European 911's had a roidal transformer while yours and rasenthiran's have a classic EI transformer.

Ps

also the red fuse holder in there with the red wire , is not a std sansui item. Probably your amp was repaired sometime in the past. Poor repair in my opinion. Can you tell me what it says in the back plate for power consumption?

I never noticed that before, soldering does look a bit rough. That 999 on
Yahoo Japan at the moment looks beautiful, have you ever heard one? I often wondered if either type of transformer is better or worse than the other, what's your opinion on that?
I will try all those things you asked for after work tomorrow and let you know what happens.

Eeeew, nasty - that's a car/automobile 'in line' fuse holder - unlikely to be rated for mains voltages.

Vincent I'm not talking about those fuses , but at the one which is automobile on the upper compartment near the main capacitors. Left picture on post no 24.

About 999dg , no I haven't heard one , but I suppose it's going to sound almost identical to 911dg.
About power consumption , yours is rated at 560 watts , mine is rated at 720watts. I don't know the reason.
Toroidals tend to be faster and with less magnetic leak and quieter when compared to EI transformers.

I connected a tuner and with "Source Direct" set to "Off",and the balance control turned fully to the dead channel, I worked all the switches many times, Nothing unusual happened and no sound came through the dead channel, however, with the speakers set to "off", I tried a set of headphones, and at maximum volume, I could barely hear the music faintly playing on the dead channel, but maybe this was just crosstalk. "With "Source Direct" set to "Source" music played in stereo with nice sound.
I then tried a turntable connected to the "Phono" input and with "Source Direct" set to "Off",and the balance control turned To the mid position, I worked all the switches many times, Nothing unusual happened and no sound whatsoever came through either channel, With The "Source Direct" set to "Source" music only came through one channel. Again, with headphones, I could hear music faintly playing on the dead channel.
Regarding the inline fuseholder, The fuse inside is rated at 250 Volts, and it tested at a steady 3 Amps. It is connected at one end to a secondary transformer winding, and at the other end to the live side of the bottom of three switched outlets on the back of the Amp.

By the way, I got those side panels on Yahoo Japan for about $70 US. Thanks for letting me know about them.

Hmmm , I think it's time you take the amp to a certified tech , one that can trace the signal with an oscilloscope , and make the necessary repairs. I think there's nothing more you can do.
As for the fuse it shouldn't be there. Someone has messed with this.

I'm convinced now that the "Source Direct" Switch itself is the problem, I'm going to see if I can do further disassembly to gain better access.
