Aux911DG Problem

Hi Vincent,

Thanks for your information. i was also using the 63 KI and also the cambridge audio dac magic, but as you said, coaxial connection from the CD 63 KI to the Digital Direct of AU X911DG does show noticeable improved difference. I may later pass the DAC Magic to my brother if the Sansui perform better. The main advantage of the Dac Magic is the USB out and it can process till 128khz.[/Q

Hi Raj,
I noticed you have the speakers I always wanted, but could never afford, the Dynadio Audience 52. Are they as good as they are on paper?

HI Vincent,

They are good speakers but very hard to drive. The bass is rock solid for a bookshelf and the tweeter is very fine and not harsh. I am currently driving it with my sansui C-2101/B-2101. I still feel the speaker is not fully drive although i am using the B-2101 (200 watt) power amplifier.

Nice! I hope to have a pair one day. So many speakers, So little time............

Vincent, your amplifier looks untouched like mine. I will have to change my belt when the time comes.;) Today i tried the Dynaudio speaker with the X911dg and i am quite impressed with the results. It actually has some serious power pushing the speaker although rated only 100 watt.

Hi Raj,
Its only 100 Watts, but its the quality of the watts that count! Looking into the guts of this Amp makes me think that the rating is very conservative. Glad to hear that your Dynaudio's are singing again. Hopefully my 911 will sing again soon. I opened her up and I can see a rubber belt still on the drive pulley, and that's the only belt that's shown in the service manual, so I'm just waiting for JOMARK911 To point me in the right direction.

Ok Vincent , take the pcb out of it's seating position , by unscrew the screws that hold it in the back plate . It won't come fully out since there are cables but it should be enough for you to have access to he belt and the gears.
Then shoot some more pics for me. It seems that the belt has loosen and slips on the pulleys.

Ok I see you have it out. Take the belt out and find a replacement first. Then take some more pics and i'll tell you what to do.

Hi John,
The belt is in position on the pulley, But you've diagnosed it correctly, Its pretty loose. Looks like its worn out. I'm going to have a look in the local hardware for a suitable replacement, then I'll get back to you. I'll take the time to give the Amp a thorough Cleaning, now that its all opened up.

Ok give those pulleys a thorough cleaning, with a qtip moistened in alcohol. Really good cleaning. Then you'll have to work the inputs and see how gears operate , you might want to loosen the two screws on the top of the gears , that regulate tension on the gears , to allow for some deoxit to penetrate , through the pcb and the gears and clean those contacts in there. Then you'll have to readjust tension by turning the screws back in , but careful , not all the way in , just how much is needed to ensure some pressure to gears and pcb for correct contact. You will have to do this several times , I mean work the input selector , see gears operating and plug one source to each input and see if sound comes out . Out of each input. You will also see that once you are in the digital inputs , say digi 1 , and select 2,3,4 no gears movement occur , but switching is done by a relay , you will hear clicking.
So, do these things and we talk again.

Hi John,
Just got a $2 bag of rubber bands, there's hundreds in there but of course NOT the one that I need.:dunno: Luckily I'm a Plumber though, so I eventually found a rubber sealing washer which fits perfectly. After fitting it, I powered up the Amp, and now the source selector is working again. Are there any adjustments that I need to do before I reassemble it?

Ok, I'll get back to you soon.

Vincent work the input selector , thoroughly , all inputs, tape 1,2,3 digitals, phono tuner aux cd, all , exercise it for a while. Make any possible combination. And then use all inputs with a cd or a tuner for instance. Make sure you have sound from both channels in all inputs. Then let it power down , and recheck after a few hours. Then you reassemble it. If you don't have any dropouts in sound don't adjust or clean the pcb below the gears.

No worries John. So far, so good.

Hi John,
I've absolutely thoroughly cleaned and Deoxit'ed it. I've worked all the controls a million times, and all the source selector buttons are working properly again. The "Digital Direct" is still working as intended. However, as before, the Tone and Balance controls don't work. With analogue sources if the selector is set to "Digital Direct" I get sound to both channels, but its a very Bright sound and not normal. Again with analogue sources if I turn "Digital Direct" off, I only get sound from the right channel, and of course there's no response from the Balance control. I realize that using "Digital Direct" disables the Tone and Balance controls, so because of that and the fact that the indicator light for "Digital Direct" only works about 40% of the time, I'm thinking that it's a problem with the "Digital Direct" selector switch. Maybe I need to get inside it to properly Deoxit it. What do you think?

Sure digital direct disables the preamp and feeds the signal direct to the power amp. Source direct also disables tone control and balance. In the off position tone and balance should work. What do you mean 40% of the time for digital direct? It should be lit whenever digital direct is selected.

You shouldn't get sound of digital direct light lit with a analog source like tuner aux phono or tape. From them you should only get sound with source direct or off. Try this , with a tuner connected to all except the phono have source direct and exercise all inputs , then exercise source direct on and off. Deoxit the switch . You should get sound either on or off. If you don't there must be something wrong with the input selector. Gears not seated correctly making poor contact on the pcb. Which means you will have to deoxit the area of the gears again and check for correct tension on them.
