Aux911DG Problem

Just to slightly hijack this thread while this amplifier is still fresh in our minds, I disassembled the front in the hope of getting into my noisy volume pot to Deoxy it and found the pot surrounded by too much other electronics for me to get to it. The amplifier is mostly back together and I was successful in changing the belt in the rear and resurrecting it. Nothing worked before the belt change. Just one more stupid question please. Does the front plate fit over or under the bottom metal aluminum plate? In other words, if you look at the amplifier from below do you see the black of the face plate or is it covered by the aluminum cover plate? Thanks.

Marc

Hi Marc,
I can confirm what JOMARK911 said, The black faceplate fits underneath the Aluminum bottom plate. Congratulations on repairing your Amp!

I'm convinced now that the "Source Direct" Switch itself is the problem, I'm going to see if I can do further disassembly to gain better access.

Just an update,
I did some major disassembly, and gained access to all the switches. I actually removed the "Source Direct" mechanism, and comprehensively cleaned and lubricated it. When I put it all back together there was no improvement. Going to start some step by step troubleshooting..........

Congrats on the new panels they look wonderful. Great buy. Get to fix this beautiful amp.

I got a basic scope, and I'm just waiting for the Frequency generator to arrive. Then of course I need to figure out how to use them. I'm a bit concerned about ground loops, but I'm sure I'll be able to work it all out.

Correct , 911 is a-xbalanced , so independent from gnd. Hot and Cold , are coded the speakers terminals. Again independent from ground.

Hi John and John,
Thanks for the warnings guys, much appreciated. To be honest I have absolutely no idea on how to use a scope. I did read a long article about ground loops, and I was considering fitting a two pin plug to the scope ( removing the earth connection ) which would increase the chances of me being electrocuted, but would hopefully make the Amp a floating platform. Is this insane, or is their a safer way to proceed? I looked at isolating transformers, but the prices are just out of my reach at the moment. Any further advice would be great. Thanks again.

You can connect the oscilloscope probe ground to chassis ground on the amp, this will give you the ability to see the output waveform, perfectly ok - unless you are wanting to make measurements.

Please don't remove the ground from your oscilloscope, as all other test gear (sig gen?) if connected to the oscilloscope / amplifier will have to have this done as well, dangerous and highly undesirable.

Thanks for the info John. The Generator arrived, so now I'm just hoping to get some time to myself so I can finally check it out.

What a great thread. Owning now for 5 years a Sansui AU-X777DG from Japan, I am now struggling with the selector changes from Digital Source (Optical) to CD which are the most common selections I make. I know what is ahead of me now and what the source of the issue is, here I come little belt! Fortunately the rest of the unit works like a charm. It is almost like new in all other aspects. I am interested to hear from Vincent D, now that 8 months have passed by since the last posting, as to whether you have been able to solve all issues and get the pre-amp selections all working and if the dropped channel is back online. If so, did you end up doing this yourself or did a local specialist work on the 91DG electronics to problem solve. I guess it would be interesting to know what the final outcome has been. To Vincent D, JOMARK911 congratulations on an incredible thread with dual input, great photos, and heartfelt companionship to keep our Sansui listening alive.

Eeeew, nasty - that's a car/automobile 'in line' fuse holder - unlikely to be rated for mains voltages.
I have this type of fuse in both my Sansui units, the x777DG and x607Extra. The are in different locations, as the x607Extra does not have the Optical Input main board as the x777DG has. Noticed this when doing the belt change on both units.

Hi Jeff,
Sorry to say that life has got in the way of this project. I have had some health problems, and that has caused problems and more stress with my job, and unbelievibly the amp is still open on my workbench waiting for me to do the scope work. I have spent a small fortune on tools and equiptment, and I am determined to finish this, but I just cant face it in my present state of mind. Its not something that I can do in several steps, I really need to approach this with a clear mind, and full concentration, and finish it once and for all. Iv'e been using my AUG-77X II for music duties in my main system, and Iv'e kinda gotten used to it, but I miss the polished performance of the Aux-911 DG. Anyway hopefully I can get back to it soon, and of course I will post an update then.
Kind Regards, Vince.

Don't worry Vince, just get well soon, when you are ready we'll still be here to offer advice and guidance where possible should you need it.

Kind regards, John.

Hi Vincent,

Get well soon. I hope you will fixed the selector issue soon and let me know how actually you solved it. My 911Dg still has the problem, due to that i cant use the amplifier tone control and loudness features. Distortion in one of the channel.
