I need to replace the cart on a Beogram 3404 (already bit the bullet and bought it, now I don't want to screw things up).

Anyone know how to carefully replace the cartridge on the tonearm?

Firmly grasp the cartridge on the sides, and gently pull downwards at the angle of the part it plugs into. Shouldn't be too hard to remove. Hope this helps.

The cart on the 3404 pulls down at more than the mounting angle, I believe. The later, smaller (MMCx) series pull straight out at the mounting angle.

still feels like i'm gonna break the thing.

there's a little copper tab underneath, is that something i should be paying attention to?

I know it feels like it is going to break. The tonearm feels so delicate, the force to remove the cart feels like you'll snap the arm or screw up the bearing. If I recall, the copper tab is part of what holds the cartridge in place. Perhaps does duty for grounding, as well.

Like the man says. Grasp by the sides and pull straight out at the angle of the cart. Careful with the plastic stylus guard (nose). The glue dries out and it will pop off.

I've had the related Beogram 1700 with the same tonearm since 1982. Love it.
