Yeah I get it. I fully admit the looks and unobtainium factor plays a huge role in the desire for these items. What you say about Onkyo boils down to Chevy can't build the Z06 or ZR1. Everything is built to a price point which is a business decision, not a lack of wherewithal to hit a different segment. I always liked the Yamaha sound compared to Pioneer and respected their business model in the 70's much more than Pioneer's approach of inflated list prices that nobody paid and deep discounts. YMMV as does mine, no worries. If I really had $6k to spend I'd be shopping for Acoustic Research most likely.

A nice looking amp well photographed. That Mitsubishi vertical turntable mounted to the wall is, well, weird. Seems like it defeats the purpose but I digress...

I agree for sure. The ARC kit is hovering right there at the top IMO, and holds it's value as well.

There's a Technics power amp that gives me the drools much like that big Onk does for some folks, it's just great marriage of "big n beefy" with "class and style". It's an art form that the Japanese really perfected. There's no way i'd shell out what one commands in the market place. But, damn that thing is pretty.

The Technics SE-A7000 is also a real looker. It may be a bargain at half the original price and shipping at half the weight of the big Onk. The turntable looks weird on the wall. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Well the big Onk is sold. Somebody is going to be very happy. My interest lists on the 'bay are popping pretty good this week. Theres an ARC VT-2000 at $4K. Just thinking about 200 wpc of tube power makes me giddy! I heard one or similar driving back in '76 driving some early 5,000 volt Dayton-Wright electrostatics (replete with their argon gas q-bottles) - they were mind blowing.

Theres was also a nice clean Technics RS-1500 too but it's gone too.

Back to the wall hung TT. Maybe they had the Beosound 9000 in mind? Not even close!
