Best 50$ bucks ever spend in Audio

For me:
A Lenco B52 - $30
A Stanton 680 - $10
A new generic elliptical stylus for above $20

...oops, that doesn't add up to 50, does it :-)?

Mine was a Micro Seiki DD33 I found in a pawn shop for $50. It came with a Shure M91ed with a worn out stylus. Once I replaced that, and bought a new head shell to go with it, it sounded good. Now, if I can fix the dust cover,,,,,,

Marantz ST6000 tuner $10; Sherwood HP 5500 tuner $36, MFSL LP records discounted when the record store closed, probably over $4 but worth it!

My wife convinced me to stop at a Saver's thrift store on a Saturday afternoon about 4 years ago. We had just spent all morning garage/yard sailing and I was eager to get home.
I reluctantly agreed to stop in. As I was approaching the electronics section I heard a sudden blast of music from a local FM radio station.
One of the store's associates had just finished setting this system up:

Pioneer SX-838
PL15Dii01.jpg
PL-15D II
CS99and99a01.jpg
and a set of CS-99A (pictured next to a set of CS-99)

The only real work needed was to open the PL-15Dii and re-attach the micro-switch that falls off the underside of the plinth due to Pioneer using plastic screws that get brittle over the years.

Always wanted to meet the original owner, my bet is that he was a Vietnam era veteran that bought this gear from the Military Exchange Stores.
I served in Asia during that period, but never could put enough money together at one time to buy any Japanese gear.

Pair of mint JBL L112, for sure my all-time $50 score. I did have to have the woofers refoamed, but that's to be expected.

Since the OP started off with record stuff I’ll say the Yamaha P-751 with a TK-5ea cart. The table is long since sold but the cart is my daily now that it’s got a NOS AT120LC stylus.
Wonderful sounding thing that plays very nicely with my system.

A bundle consisting of 2 receivers, Pioneer SX-650, Sony STR-6040, Two turntables, Technics SL-Q200 and a BPC Pioneer, a Yamaha GE-20 10 band equalizer, Pioneer CT-F500 tape deck, Roland mixer, Heathkit model 10-30 O-Scope and, wait for it... A pair of JBL Summits all original drivers. Everything for $500.00. Sold some kept the rest. Obviously I am keeping the JBL’s. Needed woofers refoamed, new midrange diffusers, and were missing glass tops and one grille frame. They sound great. Here’s how they look so far...

Sansui Eight Deluxe. Didn't work at the Salvation Army, because the previous tester had plugged it into a dead outlet. Found a live one, had a live one.

I think my best score was a Pioneer SX-1250 and a matching CT-F1250 tape deck at an estate sale for $75. Sold the CT-F1250 for $550 and kept the SX1250.

$25 for my Thorens 124. Did that twice.
Pair of MC 30 for $25, but they did need some work.
There were some others too, but those were the highlights.
