BEST 50s turntable

I was wondering if there was any good turntables from the 50s that we’re standalone units without a built in amp and without being a part of a stereo if you know of any please let me know.

Some interesting stuff in the 1959 issues. In February they tested the Shure M3D. It has boosted bass and a rapid rolloff starting at 10kHz. The M3D was not as good on mono disks as the Shure Dynetic Professional Pickup. In March, they tested a GE Golden Classic 0.5 mil VR stereo cartridge. It did not fare nearly as well as the Shure M3D as the GE needed 5 grams VTF to track test records. The needle talk was so loud that enclosing the turntable was suggested. Interesting stuff and a great way to learn the important basics.

Two iconic 50's turntables spring to mind:

• 1953 - Garrard 301
• 1956 - Thorens TD-124

Amazingly, both sought after and rank high on enthusiasts wish lists more than 60 years later.
