Best sounding large boombox radio cassette from the 80-s

SANYO M9975 BOOMBOX - This is what got me through my teenage years. God, I miss it. My father plugged it into a 220 socket, that wasn't labeled correctly, in the basement of a place that we were renting. Boom box was right!! Man was I mad. I collected money from an insurance company from it and had it repaired. It still kicked ass even after all that. Anyway, I'm sure this one isn't the best sounding. But, it has to be pretty damn close. Great thread.

Smokes anything from the '80s! It's designed, engineered, and manufactured by a buddy of mine with an equal fascination of '80s boom boxes. He worked on it for five years before going into production.

I recall listening to Freeze Frame, Panama, No Parking on the Dance Floor, and Funkytown on the prototype and being totally blown away. It's the real deal and you don't have to buy D cell batteries by the gross.

Yes, the best boom boxes have line inputs!

I once had a JVC CD/Cassette/Radio boom box from 1990 (model PC-X200) that didn’t have a AUX input.

But, it did have CD OUT jacks. So, I “repurposed” those jacks to Line In.

And, welcome to AK, Paul!

Pioneer SK 31.....all controls had a solid precision feel. You could play it a very loud levels and no apparent distortion...pioneer-sk31.jpg

The speakers detach, and only the radio and auxillary line in work, but here's my 1986 Fisher.

The Panasonic RX 5080 is an unassuming sleeper with a very sweet sound. Father in law had one, I inherited it and used it as my job radio for yrs, would love another so my RX 7000 can stay at home where it belongs. I've bid on a few but didn't win, priorities prevent me from just throwing money at one just to own it.

Does anybody have or know where to get a service manual for the Panasonic RX-5080?
Thank you.
