The search for the holy grail of subwoofers is always a common goal of most people.
Bass is very important for movies & music and I’m sure everyone has a certain preference or favorites.
Post pics of your favorites!!

Subwoofers keep getting more advanced I’d like to see what’s new & cutting edge.

Best budget subwoofers?
Best high end ?

Currently I’m using a diy sub .
Stereo integrity si ht 15” in large 4.5 cubic foot box. Sometimes it feels like I need higher end speakers to compare to it tho.
It’s more in the lower budget range tho .

Not the biggest but it sounds excellent.
Bass lovers post pics please.

I feel out of date because my model Is discontinued.
Always feel behind on what’s new .!!

I’ve always been a fan of velodyne subs although I have owned many brands from svs to paradigm to sunfire but always came back to velodyne . I currently have the Velodyne Hgs 12 and it does the job well for both home theater as well as 2ch and you can get them for a decent price now considering they were $3k retail.

The sub (Danley) isn't a DIY but my wife & I figured out a nice way to hide it!

Infinity Modulus subwoofer pictured with the Modulus mains, not mine but I do have the set and it will never be sold. Beats the hell out of my twin 12" Dayton subs. The aluminum ribs running down the right corner are the amp heat sinks. Not the earth shaking sub most look for when thinking HT, but if looking for a "musical" subwoofer I've never heard better.



The external control unit makes adjustments a breeze and I like that it has an adjustable high pass with dip switches on the rear.



Not cheap when new in 1990 at $2000 but I see them pop up on eBay from time to time for around $800, if interested make sure the control unit is there and the foam surrounds need replacement every ten yrs or so. One other thing, it's heavy, 81lbs so hope you ate your Wheaties if picking one up lol.

Used jbl 4645.HUGE,takes up the space of an easy chair.But man it does the job,and generally inexpensive used.If it's good enough for a theater,it's good enough for my house.

Anything Tom Danley designed goes straight to the front of the line, as far as I'm concerned. He was doing things with subs 30 years ago that just about nobody can match even today, and he's still innovating. His subs don't "just" go low, they do it cleanly, musically, and under control. Unfortunately for us home audio people, he works primarily in live sound reinforcement.

Right now I'm using a DIY Dayton subwoofer, 12". Can't recall the exact parts used, but the "better" Dayton driver and Dayton amp. It sure sounds pretty good, and it matches my speakers well.

Some day I may upgrade, especially if I get a bigger listening room.

On my list:

1) JL Fathom series - not sure which one yet, exactly

2) Anything "servo" by a reputable brand - supposedly they have great "control"

4) Finally, an infinite baffle 18" subwoofer of some sort (built into a wall, fireplace, ceiling, whatever)

For two channel audio I have two 12" TL DIY subs (Nelson Pass designed) driven by a pair of bridged Crown's (900W each). For HT/surround audio my surround speakers are augmented (bass wise) by an Acoustat SPW-1. They are bi-amped via a pair of Adcom GFA-545's.

JL audio fathom

The best sub I've ever owned, and I think it's the best sub I've ever heard. I run it at around 1% of its rated power, it can do bass as much as you want.... seriously effortles and limitless. I'd love two if I ever find another one used again. but til then.

plays really nice as the right side subwoofer in my main system matched against the above JL on the right.
(for true hi fidelity listening, you need stereo subs, I don't care what anyone says.)

M&K dual push/pull 12" sub. I'd love the new ken kreisel version of this, but it's $$$$$$

and as I said in the other thread, the def tech supercube III is one hell of an amazing sub, especially since it's tiny and only has 7 1/2" driver with dual passives. in smaller rooms, it's all you'll need.

Velodyne ULD 15 floor firing 15" sealed enclosures, with their included 400 watt servo controlled line input only amplifiers.

IMO & 25 years of user experience, they perform excellent.

I own 4 : 2 in the bedroom complimenting the Mac XRT 18 speakers & the 2 MC 1201 amplifiers in use in that system.
And 2 in the sunroom helping the Dahlquist DQ 10 speaker`s weak bottom octave, which really helps when I switch out the normally running Mac MC 2205 over to my stable of rotation tube amps (MC 225, MC 30`s, Dynaco Mk. III, ARC D 76A), especially the lower power Macs tube amps, which though they sound wonderful, can run out of breath, if pushing the SPL up to realistic levels with digital music that has strong bass content..

My, very picky, and SQ critical B-I-L, tracked down a bought 3 used ones from Audio Classics in ~2000, after hearing mine, and runs a pair in his main SS/tube quad amp`d living room stereo system, and one is used in his garage stereo so to have full sounding audio while he works out there.
