:yikes:

I beleive this is already a new high for the R117. Kiss goodbye the cheep ones now. :tears:

Aught to be interesting to see just how far this will go.

Paul :thmbsp: (sitting on 3 R117's!)

I think you guys caused it, well with Chris' help. Talking about how good this unit is. Been seeing prices going up for a couple years. Glad I was able to let AK know about one with a BIN of under 200 a while back that Paul now owns.

Note to self

Whips pencil and pad out of back pocket, writes notes to self

"On all your Goodwill, SA and Thrift stores hunts remember to keep your eye open for a Luxman R-117"

:D

I love audiokarma, how would I know what is good or not if not for you guys. In fact while reading threads I sometimes get the stinking suspician that I have seen a particular unit before but didn't have a clue to it's audio quality ($$$). I didn't know there was BPC looking like units that were worth chedda.

CR-2040/CR-2020 > Luxman R-117

And they're cheaper too!

:zoom:

Especially at those prices, anyone else see the average R-117 listed for a $900 starting bid!!!

From all that is reported here on AK, the Concept 16.5 makes the R-117 look like BPC, no? Also interesting is the R-117 approaching 16.5 pricing., hype hype hype, lemmings lemmings lemmings. Off the cliff we go, off the cliff we gooooooo!

CR-2040/CR-2020 > Concept 16.5(then again, CR-220 > Concept 16.5)

Though, YMMV.

:D

Edit: beemer you ever throw the CR-1040 and a R-117 in the ring? Your opinion?

I've owned the CR-1040 and the CR-1020 and while good, they are definitely not in the same league as the R-117 or the 16.5. The 2040 and the 2020 are marginally more powerful and should make a better showing but my opinion stands.

I cannot see that the Concept 16.5 was mentioned in the original post, and I have no idea why someone was thinking this was a great thread to bring up this amp, except for possibly wanting to antagonize the original poster or crap on his thread. I would recommend mods to consider it as such.

Therefore, I am not going to get into a another slugfest about the 16.5 except for saying that mine completely blew the doors off my CR-2020 - they are not even in the same league. Neither would you expect them to be - after all, the 16.5 has about 50% more power. Regardless of power, the 16.5's sonics are much superior.

Would love to A/B the 16.5 with a CR-3020, though.

All the best,

All the best,

My comments are on topic bringing up another piece that is overpriced and overhyped around here. They are overpriced and overhyped.

Hype - –noun
5. exaggerated publicity; hoopla.

Hype can have both a negative and/or a positive connotation.

I then stated my opinion of the piece(with a simple NON offensive > sign) that was mentioned by the original poster and the other piece RELEVANT to this very topic. The topic, which I understood as BIG PRICING on OVERHYPED PIECES.

So, my opinions are crap and you go further to try to sick mods on me for them? Then you even further insinuate I was trying to antagonize the original poster and crap on the thread? What hat did you pull that out of¿
Where did I do that again???

You and others mention your favorites all the time, relevant to the post or not, so why is my opinion bad and yours ok?
For no valid reason other than to, contrary to your very comment, start a slugfest? Where's all the hate coming from besides the fact, seemingly, you can't stand when someone doesn't agree with your opinions?

Not very friendly...nor is that in line with "all the best"...

Not sure why a simple X > Y is grounds for this hatred. It's an opinion, nothing more(and far less than you (mis)interpret it as).

BPC around here is also amusing, many classify anything with a black face as BPC, but then others jump up and grit their teeth and growl when you mention the R-117 or others being BPC

I lemminged myself over the cliff on more than a few pieces grossly overhyped around here. The R-117 and Concept 16.5 are two of the most overhyped pieces around these parts. There's also quite a range of opinions on them, EVERYONE should be entitled to their opinion without harrasment. My opinions are nothing more than my opinion, even if I add a little tongue in cheek smart azz to 'em sometimes. I thought this was a no (negative) attitude site...

YOU crapped on my comments and went so far as to try to sick mods on me for them.

Why the hate?

Oh yes, I forgot this important, relevant, on topic link...

Glad I got mine when they were cheap.($26.99) thrift find.I was listening to mine last night for the first time in three months.Sure is a fine receiver. They may not be as attractive as the big silver but they are their equal sonically from my experience.Hence the rising price as people are becoming aware of their capabilities.Don't mean to hijack the thread but was there ever a review in the stereo mags on this model?

how is the Luxman gear viewed by most people? Is Luxman similar to say, Pioneer or Marantz or JVC? I have a Luxman R-3055 receiver and while it looks nice.. it's no silver Pioneer of similar age or build quality.

I like my R-117. It has a nice warm sound that is a throwback to the silver era. As far as build quality goes, it is heavy and does not suffer from "empty box syndrome".
