Danke James. English is so difficult.
Thanks for the welcome.
The Pyramids are on order and the originals are in the trash.. I expect my equipment to last for some time. If the woofers are the main degredation and worry to everone who rerpairs them, then why dont people take Vulcan Logic and just get rid of the 8's with something reliable?

Okay, I'm not sure they're a worry to everyone who repairs them.
but if you want the best performance from a vastly underrated pair (arguably the best Bose ever made) then you should have kept the original woofers and had them repaired. I don't think that's a hard speaker to find, as I think they also used it in other applications.
Someone with more experience might be able to confirm this, but apparently the same size woofer was used in the 301 as the 601. There are indications they may actually be the same woofer. Both of which turn up frequently.Yes indeed in theory that is completely true. I dont deny, originals give original performance.
But with some ghaul, I might be on to something fresh. I'm willing to gamble. If they end up sounding better, I'll be so happy.
As for their specs, they had similar curve actions to previous posts made here. But on the bonus side, these new ones have tougher cones which should move more air through the cabinet respectively, without distortion from bounceback.
Too bad they went in the trash, I would have liked to try to rebuild them. Oh well. Thanks for the welcome.

You got me. I've yet to lay my hands on a pair. Might be a schematic in the AK archives. I'll have to take a look. The Bose 601 woofers had PLENTY of bass. And, they have no crossover point in the crossover, correct Copa? Didn't Bose just let the woofers roll off?

From picking them up, for me potentially, to liking them so much is awesome. I hope to find a pair some day. Came close on the auction site, but the drive, 6hrs one way, was more than I could justify, time and cost in fuel.Sweet. That manual helps alot, I have the 3 input post model.
Seems the crossover was tinkered with quite a bit between series II early and series II later in the run.
I don't guess I'll tinker with my pair. Mated to my Carver 900 receiver, the sound is simply stunning.
Quickly becoming my favorite setup.

Love it, I accept all the blame. I've never been a hard core fan. My brother had 301, which didn't impress me all that much. Never heard the 201, or any other Bose besides my 901 speakers, but they're the only ones I took seriously and wanted since I was a teen. I have a set of 501, but they are in a very sad way. I just need replacement woofers (long story). It's all your fault, man!At least I tell my wife that.
All jokes aside, I was hurting for money when I saw these. Got out, looked them over, and decided no. Sit at work for 4 hours, just itching to go back. I left with cash from the petty cash till and snagged 'em. Replaced said cash, and was glad I did.
I'll never BoseBash wholesale ever again. They actually CAN make some great stuff.
My figuring is to rebuild these the same way I rebuild guitar and studio equipment.
The cotton batting technique was needed because of the distortion that bounceback gives the cones. Stronger cones means less bounceback effect. MESA BOOGIE hasnt used baffling for twenty years because they have upgraded cones which handle high volumes without distortion.
As for replacements, no company I've asked will guarantee against rot, in fact they all claim its enevitable with foam surrounds. So why replace or rebuild something in a way thats just going to do the same thing in 5-10 years?
But as for swaping the 8's; the saying goes; Only Time Will Tell.

Like I said, hope to someday snag a pair of 601 myself.
Cool.5 or 10 years? Figure double that.
And I'd leave the batting inside. Boomy standing waves aren't good, and I know a thing or two about guitars/amplification, since I've worked for Gibson Guitars and built my own recording studio. The disciplines have similiar rules, but different desired outcomes.
I hope they sound great for you. Hopefully, those will drop right in and sound fantastic.
I was never a fan, either.
Until....
Should I ever see any 501 woofers for sale, I'll give you a shout, for sure. Always liked those at the hifi shop I worked as a 25 year old.

Post here or start your own thread. People like images and narration, so if you're up to it, others will appreciate it.In many drier areas mabey; Here in Southern Ontario we spend almost half the year at above 60 % humidity, four of those months commonly reach averages of 80 % humidity.
Kentucky, I believe, has more favorable conditions to foam life and resiliancy.
But, Thank You. I'll let you know how they do once dropped in.
BTW: On that regard. How would one broadcast such results; So if successful, others may benifit?
