Bose 601 "owner" opinions please

Hey Copa....I'm currently running the one 601 with a Mach Two for the other channel. Using a Realistic 12 Band EQ, the 601 is no slouch. Not pushing over 10 watts at the moment, listening to Miles Davis' TUTU.....
 
Good luck with your 601 project. I remember hearing them in stores way back when, but I have no other personal experience with them.

I'd love to see a dedicated Bose forum, but I'm afraid it would be kind of like the nation of Israel: A tiny bastion surrounded by people attacking it all the time. Maybe that's why even Bose doesn't sponsor one on their own site. They do have a fb presence, though.
 
Well thus far, Miles Davis, Diana Krall & War of 1812 have sold me. This single speaker, mono or stereo, is quite choice. I'm extremely pleased and motivated.....

I will have to say that when a pair of 601's become available at a fair price I will jump on them since I hear that they are nice sounding speaker. Keep us updated with your progress and good luck.
 
I'm lovin' this Mach Two/ 601 combo test to the max. My friend & I have been giving a serious listen. I thought my Mach Twos were my last jazz speaker. Now I've made my mind up. Bose is junk! On the hunt we go...

Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture really shows what this Bose is about....Stout Low Ends, Highs that linger, Horns that sound like, well, horns....

I remember hearing them in stores and at a friends house and they didn't sound bad. The only glaring weakness is the cheap a.. looking and probably are, tweeters. The design is descent, but they'ed surely be improved with better tweeters.

What style of music do you recall when you heard them?
 
I have a pair of series 1's that I am very fond of. I believe the series one's are the best sounding of all the 601's due to its solid build quality.

Over the years I discovered they they can sound even better on a pair of 18-24" stands. This brings the tweeter array to ear level when seated and things really open up from there. The bass tightens up and the image becomes enveloping.

They wont be displacing my Maggie's or DQ 10's but they won't be leaving anytime soon either.
 
Well, thus far- I'm losing my bidding events on the bay. A pair found on CL got away from me. I'm considering just blueprinting this one unit and build a pair of cabs...either locate a Xover or build one up...Can anyone tell me recommend tweeter replacement models from simply speakers or parts express. And do I need to remove a tweeter from the circuit to read its ohm value....I have +100 square feet of 3/4" plywood ready to be sawed into cab dimensions....Thanks Most Kindly- Eddy
 
Somebody call the shrinks...I went ahead and splurged on a nice pair of series I...sorry for the bidding participants. It just seemed a better dollar value to buy nice refoamed set. Cabs are nice and series I have the symmetrical switch too:smoke: Bose-Bashers Welcomed!

Congratulations

I believe this was a better choice than trying to build one on your own. Now you can use the single you have as spares.

While you have the woofers out refoaming them be sure to check the fuse/lamp in the tweeter circuit. These tend to become fragile after many years and can fail just moving them around.

I never paid much attention to the Bose bashers as I don't believe most of them have spent the time with the product to form an intelligent opinion. I don't believe Bose is the be all / end all but they are much better than their detractors give them credit for.

Once you get them set up, try them on some stands, you may be pleasantly surprised.

I didn't get to put pencil to paper, but my mind was telling me the time & money I would save by just going ahead with the purchase. I'm short on time & money, and I'm not getting any younger! Scratch on off the bucket list. I'm finally a Bose owner.....

Roger that,wmg...thanks. This pair auctioned as re-foamed woofers. And the single I have now will help me delve deep into the principles of this design. I'm stoked!

Okay, I'm the threadstarter you referenced, and I can say with absolute certainty, these Bose 601 II's I have will never leave.

Bose bashers know not what they say. With my Carver 90 receiver, the sound is just so damn FUN.

I have many MANY great speakers, but these are so uncomplicated. Turn on the amp, and enjoy.

I wished we had made a sticky for Orphan Speakers, perhaps find you a 601 II that is lonely, but that idea never got off the ground.

Enjoy those series 1's. I sure ended up loving mine.
