Brrr, Winter New England AK FrankenFest get together - SATURDAY FEBRUARY 28TH

Wattaquadock Hill Rd?
:lmao:

That's the kind of road that causes people to say "turn left at the red brick building"! :D

Is there a convenience store (aka beer store) somewhere near, or should I just come packin'?

This is Clinton. There's 2 or 3 within a few blocks of Frank's.

Coordinating food? Do you seriously expect a gaggle of addlepated mid lifers to coordinate anything?

I'll have burgers, AudioDon usually has cheese, always plenty of store bought snacks. Ed always brings a nice dish, as do a few others.
My observation is that if you like food and enjoy preparing it, most other folk will love it. Ain't nothing like homemade.

One of the best things about these fests is that there is no need for organization, it's taken some time but needs have been noted and people just step up and take care of them. Aside for a couple of 1-2 minute conversations 3 times a year these things just happen, and they work.

It's impressive really, I've not seen many functions of this size that require so little effort, and it is a testimony to the notion that the best approach to managing large numbers of smart motivated people is to get the hell out of the way.

Frank C.

Hi folks,

Diane and I will be attending and am wondering if there will be workshops like last time? Specifically I have a Dual 1229 that I acquired some time ago from a guy who was selling his Dad's old equipment. It was shipped from overseas back in the 80's and has been in the original box since then. All the parts seem to be there, but I am told it is set up currently for European line voltage and needs to be changed for US. Also have not dug in at all to clean, lube etc... since the acquisition. Will anyone be present that would be able to perform these tasks?

Here is a link to a thread I did when acquiring the piece with pics.

Also would like to bring something to share with everybody. is anyone coordinating the food that will be present and what is lacking that we could bring?

Geoff (and Diane)

Not a bad drive, but Water street into Clinton is pothole hell. Better continue on 117 to a left on Forbush Mill road across from Nashoba High School to merge onto 110. Go through the first Clinton light to Sonny's liquors, or right on Brook street and left to Wachusett Liquors.

Great event, I assume it is still going strong; I needed to bail out early to do some work at home. Nice turnout.

Thanks to Frank for hosting!

What a nice little affair! Bought a couple records and a CD, good thing I intentionally shorted myself for money otherwise I'd have had big problems, LOL There was a cute little dual-6BM8 amp that had me drooling, but self-control was the watchword for the day...its big brothers next to it almost had me apoplectic...

Will certainly bring my son should one be run again, he will be in vinyl-nirvana

Another great AKday! Thanks to our gracious host and everyone that contributed to this well attended event. Nice to catch up with old friends and meet some new ones.

I think we all needed that. You could tell cabin fever was getting the best of us after the weather we've endured this winter. :D

I've started a photo thread here for those that want to remember the day or see what all the fuss was about:

Thanks once again to the hosts and organizers!

Great to see everyone. Lots of great stuff to gawk at, as usual!

Yes, once again an excellent time had by all.

Frank and I estimated we had 75 participants total with at least 5 new folks.

Even though we didn't have any workshops and only one formal listening room upstairs (which many were unaware of) it was clear that all had a good time.

As always, there was much in the way of fascinating gear - lot's of fixer-uppers (which has the appeal of fostering a winter project) and tons of superb, tempting vinyl to be had.

And despite our weather worries parking was not an apparent issue.

Thanks all for making it so easy.

Our summer get together will be on Saturday June 27th

My first one, definitely not the last. Blown away by the venue, thank you so much Frank. A really fine event. It was great getting to meet AK members IRL, sell some gear, and find some gear, and talk about audio. Not a bad day, not a bad day at all.

Another great day in Clinton. Thank you Frank. I think we all needed a day out of the house to enjoy good company.

Mucho thanks to Frank for letting us use his wonderful space. I had a great time and it was good to see everyone and lots of great audio gear to.

As always, thank you Frank for being a wonderful host. It was great (and much needed) to see some old friends, and meet some new ones. If anyone went home empty handed, it wasn't due to lack of gear!!

Thanks to everyone for sharing their day with me :thmbsp:

Great afternoon in Clinton. Nice day meeting new folks and renewing acquaintances. Thanks Frank, Jim ......

PS - Thanks for the use of the tube tester Al
