Wow. Haven't heard this song in a long time. Played on radio tonight and I was shocked at the quality of this recording.

I would say best Blood Sweat and Tears recording!

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

"God Bless the Child" is a song by Billie Holiday and Arthur Herzog Jr. She first sang it in 1939

I heard that just a couple of weeks ago over Beemers house, on his AMAZING system, I swear it was like being there, you could almost smell the band...

I was just gonna say approximately the same thing birddog just did. Absolutely stunning recreation at Beemer's house -- an SACD version, IIRC.

The LP version is great too, I think that they got it right. I think I'm going to pull out my copy!

One of my favorite BS&T albums, and one of my absolute favorite songs.

Wonder whatever happened to them? After the band & David Clayton-Thomas parted company, it was like they fell off the face of the earth...Must have been some REAL bad blood there...

Bst

Great old Billie Holiday tune. Great arrangement by BST. As a musician I just played it last night. BTW, BST just broke up fo good last year.I have heard them live for the last 7 or 8 years. Not all the same guys. Check out their site.

My favorite from that album is Blues Part 2. It is amazing what old analog recordings can reveal.

That was on one of the first LPs I got as a kid, and it got a lot of play. Also one of the first ones I got when I got back into vinyl again --not because I particularly missed it, but just because I happened to see it again and got it for nostalgia's sake. Glad I did, because you're right: it's well recorded! :music:

Al Kooper, of course, was also on the "Super Sessions" album, with "Season of the Witch". Now THATone I DID miss, and made a point of getting it again. Not just one, but two copies, to make sure I'll always have a good one to listen to. :thmbsp:

i must say al kooper led and still leads an incredible life.

i always loved BS&T's song Sometimes in Winter.

Yeah If you go to his web site you well find out he is out on tour. They say he even is young enough to open for an old man - John Mayall.

That album, self-titled, Blood Sweat and Tears was made when the group had just added David Clayton-Thomas as lead singer, and were still able to record what the group, itself, wanted to record, rather than the investors and producers wanted. It is truly a superb collection, and I just picked up the Gold, MFSL SACD release. This one is one of the few times I've put on a CD and closed my eyes to listen to vinyl sound coming off of it.

Enjoy,
Rich P
