As you can tell, that is a very good and tough question. Myself I have the C2200 at home, have played around with tubes and wound up with Telefunkens in there. Everything sound beautiful to me now at home. I am so happy with it that I have not brought home the C2300 to replace the C2200. It doesn't mean that I don't like the C2300....I am just so happy with the C2200 that I don't WANT to change it!
How's that for a non-answer?!

Build quality is tremendous on the C2300! Improved connectors, chassis, ergonomics are better, FIBEROPTIC lighting!!!! More input options as well. Hmmm.....maybe I do need to take this one home for a while to listen!

By the way, I will have a set of MC3500's here today and will be doing some good listening with them next week. Unfortunately they are customers units so I have to give them back:tears:

Everything is for sale at the right price! Certainly the C2200 and C2300 are not only two of the most friendly to use but also musically satisfying preamps McIntosh has ever designed.
If someone likes a preamp that colors the sound of the sources these are not the units to use. Horses for courses of course!

No doubt that the C2300 is an improved model in all counts especially the MC input option the C2200 did not have :yes: - the rest of which are aesthetics which can be done as an after mod (fibre optics, connectors).
Since I am a "worshipper" of Sidney Coderman and owned 3 of his last masterpieces (MC2000), to me, his "same period/last? Preamp design" would be a better match. So, I would go for the C2200, mod to the same titanium golden hue to match. :thmbsp:
Ryan, stay with the C2200, dont be a bad influence - not so fast ....... pleeaasssse !
I am not discounting the fact that I may also end up having one set of the new C2300+MC2301's though .....

I have just brought home a C2300 for a listen and to compare to my C-46.
Up front, the 2300 just blows away the C2200. Gone is the slightly lean upper mids/lower treble with little bass impact of the c2200.
This has been replaced with a top to bottom coherence and musicality which is enlightening and to me at the moment, just a little entoxicating.
I have only listened to 3 LP's so far, however SMOG sounded sublime, the Guttertwins sounded dark and mesmirising and the 1st Dire Straits Lp sounds as fresh as when I first bought it 29 years ago.
BASS & TREBLE CONTROLS - WOW!!!.
You can change the bass and treble on the fly from your remote sitting on your fat ass!!. Now how good is that.
The best thing the bass and especially the treble adjustment (up and down by 12db) works an absolute treat. Did I tell you you can adjust from the remote!!. Seriously this enables you to get exactly what sound you prefer from your listening position

Why don't Mac have this feature on ALL their pre amps??? - god knows a lot or recordings need some subtle help. If you are that way inclined - don't use it.
If it can be put into a 6k pre, it can be put into the 2 pre's above it with a sw change surely ??
I have not used the MM or MC inputs, just my Pass Xono reference phono into the line inputs, so can't comment but not expecting a lot.
Bad point - Why does the remote light up BLUE when you touch a button. Reminds me of a bad LSD flashback.
anyway, back top the music. I would be interested in other owners views of the C2300, as for me, so far it has exceeded what I was expecting.
I'll give a more detailed comparo after a week of use.
