I just finished watching all the way to the end. That is the first time I have seen a C1 opened up. Two thoughts;
1) Yamaha engineers put a lot of thought and effort into the design and manufacture. Over 40 years later, I stand in awe.
2) What you have done Rottalpha in making this re-working of the original design: The new boards with the new components and relays etc. Take a bow. Again I stand in awe. This is more than re-furbishment. I saw you said that finalising some of the boards took longer than a year. I can't tell you how impressed I am with your dedication to these designs.

Excellent work Pete as always! Having gone thru much of the reconditioning you've mentioned on mine I know how much work is involved; truly a labour of love but worth every moment of it and more, as you've shown.
Mine came to me after it had been sitting in an unheated barn for a few years and after being reworked by another tech that did more harm than good. I got it as a non working extra that came with a near death UC-1/B-1.
When I got the C-1, along with needing lots of TLC that I gave it it had 1 dead unobtanium K78 so I was sure I'd never get to enjoy it. Luckily someone I reached out to took pity on me and generously shared 1 of their very precious hard work finds with me and the rest is history.
I've been enjoying it ever since.
To my ears the C-1 is a sonic masterpiece as it stands and with your excellent tweaks I'm thinking the Yamaha V-FET Engineers of old would be very happy with all you've done to keep these beauties living on for at least another 50 years.
Looking forward to learning about your incandescent to LED conversion.

Ive been thinking of using these, they are in those Edison LED lights .

Happy birthday, Pete! Thanks for creating your wonderful projects and sharing them with us. Could you please tell us exactly which LED strips you used and what drivers you paired them with? Will the noise from the drivers affect the amplifier? I’m thinking of upgrading the lighting in my Yamaha B -2

I picked this up in my trip in Japan, but I am certain I could find other suppliers. The specs are on the package. Not a direct drop-in but worth the effort to implement.

Why did you choose the 5 Volt version? I would try the 12 Volt version to connect directly instead of the old lamps.
Because that’s what they had at the store.
Ideally, for B2 and UC-1, a 12v version is used if you find one or you need a drop resistor. In any case you would need a current limiting resistor.
For C-1 the source voltage would be different.
Minor detail: All worked well the last time I ran the C-4. I received my LEDs, pulled the case and front panel, and disconnected the bad bulb at the power switch. Plugged the unit back in to figure out which LED lead goes to the red & white wires, and I now have no power at any of the bulbs. I used to hear a relay click 3-5 seconds after I push the power switch - now I hear nothing. I cycled the power switch a number of times and checked for power at the switched outlets - all good. Checked the four fuses by the power transformer - all are good. What should I be looking for next?
@rottalpha Amazing work. As far as my opinion is concerned, you’re an inspiration to us all. Especially the people learning the hobby. Amazing.
