Calling All Yamahas. Time to Post Your Pics

The class A operation is acheived with Yamaha's HCA design which was subsequently used in their later MX series amps, this is what the Yamaha releases says, if you go my the Japanese MX-10000 brochure, the power curve is the same as in MX amps. Now unless B-2x was HCA design, I don't see any co-relation here.
First....one should not believe all the marketing hype they read. Even Yamaha's. Next, as you point to these 'power curves' for the MX amps, and most of us do not have access to same, how about making a scan of the ones for the MX-1000, 2000 & 10000 and posting them in this thread so we can see what you are talking about? It would be most educational, I am sure. And, last, as Anders has stated, the MX-10000 has design elements in it that appear to be parts from at least two other Yamaha amp designs, the B-2x and HCA. It is unique in this. The fact that the MX-10000 contains the HCA bias scheme does not negate the fact that it also contains the Class A driver circuitry from the earlier B-2x.

Mark B - Intersting that you weighed a B-2 and it weighs 5 lbs 3 oz less than the manuals (both OM & SM) state. And that the B-2x weighs 5 lbs more. Will be interesting to read what you get when you weigh the MX-2000.

Yamaha1 it has the same class A circuit as the B-2x only it is running at 7V (B-2x 3V) and it is using MOS-FET + HCA but the design comes from the B-2x. The 2 caps (100,000µf 10V) Mark B mentions in the Centennial thread are vital for this circuit and to my knowledge they are only present in the B-2x (2x100.000uf 6,3V per cannel), A-2000 and MX-10000. Even the MX-2000 does not have them!

If you look at the block diagram you can see that the speaker connection is between the class A (MOSFET HCA) section and the class A/B power buffer section, on the MX-2000 and MX-1000 the speaker connection is after the A/B section.

Of all the companies, Yamaha has the least marketing hype unless you believe that VFET, beyllium and HCA are all hype.

Take a look here at the curve posted http://k-nisi.hp.infoseek.co.jp/mx-10000.html its the same for all MX amps. HCA alone delivers class A, why bother with older B-2x design. Doen't fit the logic unless you are telling me all MX amps share circuit from B2-x.

Well......they got two (VFET & Be) out of three right. The other is just hype. And t-r-m is telling you exactly the opposite. That only the MX-10000 appears to have the B-2x circuitry in it. Not all MX amps. The 'devil is in the details'.

Well guess what, VFET is an even bigger hype then, no substance at all, sound notwithstanding and as I said, whats the point of using B-2x circuitry when HCA already acheives it with its design. Since MX-10000 uses HCA, it makes it a hype in your book as compared to your VFET.

The MX-2000 weighs 61.5lbs

Since I seem to be the semi-official scale keeper, I've ordered an NCI commercial platform scale in the interest of accuracy, convenience, and to reduce the chance of damage during weighing. With a 20" x 20" platform, there will be no need to stand an amp on it's side to weigh it.

About old design in the MX-10000, look at the power transformer; who said M-2/B-5 :para:

wow guys cool down...

it is simpel, it is in the block diagram.

Yep but its sheer junk, an HCA hype from Yamaha. The MX-2000 and 1000 came after the 10000, by then the designers at Yamaha had implemented APS which is not there in the 10000, calling HCA hype is same as calling VFET one.

A picture~

I scored this Yamaha CX-600U Pre-amp at my local
GW last night.Besides a couple of scratches on its top
its in pretty good shape.I gave it a good cleaning,
and it sounds good,Not great but good. For 10 bucks
Im not bitching. What amp goes with it,anyone???
The volume knob/dail has some play in it,it moves
side to side or up and down about a 1/16" of an inch.
To the pic-

slug you did great! 1988, $449.
Any Yamaha amp would be great, but it probably was paired with the MX-600U, 135 wpc, $559.
I may be preaching to the choir, but any Yamaha is very good, some excellent and all have that great Yamaha non-sound Natural Sound.

The amp weighing scale arrived. It's well used, but cleaned up nicely.
This thing is a beast, around 60lbs itself.

Made to withstand the rigors of your friendly UPS/Fedex/etc. employee as he gently weighs your priceless gear during shipping. :D

Quite odd that the OM and SM would be off by 5 pounds on the B-2. Nice looking feet on that B-2, by-the-way.

Added an A-1 to the collection

I hooked up my new A-1 today. and snapped a few pictures while I was at it. My initial impressions are that it is one fine amp. I'm listening to LP's on my Dual 1229, with the Disc switch engaged. I'll have to spend some time listening, to see how it stacks up against the M-4/C-4 combo. Perhaps I'll buy one of those dual source speaker switches, so I can hook both of these amps up to my speakers.:scratch2:

Here's the current state of my Yamaha collection:
