Thanks for the input guys I'm still not sure what they are. They do you have a brilliance control on the back panel something I'm not familiar with. They do sound nice. Maybe somebody's project in the '70s. I can't figure out how to open them up without destroying the back panel so who knows.

They look like Advent 1 knock offs. Maybe a DIY. The drivers are obviously not advent, and the Advent 1 would have a square mortised out for the fried egg tweeter.
Can you get the seller to send you a picture of the input plate? Looks like it might have a label instead of generic, but too hard to tell with that photo

Brilliance is for the tweeter.
DIY has become my conclusion. The estate sale it came from was a rather old money part of town and the build quality and beauty of the boxes is done really well . I own them now and the demo of it sounded really good. It cost little of nothing and they may end up stacked on my NLA Advents...lol. as the b speakers.
A factory looking build like that with no permanent brand or model number embossed on the back plate kinda makes me think they are stereo shop house brand speakers. House brand speakers were unbranded speaker systems built for stereo shops by outside vendors and sold at a discount, usually with stereo system package deals. Places like Tech Hi-Fi, Pacific Stereo, Wall to Wall Sound, Sam Goody etc. would often sell unbranded speakers alongside well known brands as a cheaper alternative to boost system package sales. Usually they had basic cone tweeters and CTS or similar woofers, those woofs might have been sourced from Sound Dynamics as Turboyam said. They look pretty decent, glad you picked them up!
I would, because I think it might have University drivers, but I can't seem to get the back off without destroying it... ..oh well the mystery remains...Good!. Do us a favor and pull one woofer out, so we can now sleep better!

If you have possession of the speakers, wouldn't posting MUCH larger sized close-ups of the woofer, tweeter, and back panel control help a lot???? Those pictures are thumbnail-size and shot from a distance! Help us help you.
