Interesting possibly CTS phenolic ring tweeters , whats the back look like terminals? any adjustments? knobs ect

Very promising. 2 woofers and a centrally-located tweeter. Nice cabinets and grilles. I'd want to see and hear them in person. Those tweeters could easily be swapped out for something else.

So, upon further scrutiny, I do notice a couple small differences. The speakers in the picture look to have treated cloth surrounds, my DLK's are rubber. Also, the facia trim and grill are different. And lastly my motorboard is not veneered. Otherwise the same. :D

They look like some 30-40 year old speakers that were heavily-modified (judging by the magic-marker-applied + & - symbols and a few other DIY touches). The cabs do look modified rather than built from scratch (to me at least). The drivers and cabs remind me of the Marantz Imperial models.

Are the dust caps on those a fuzzy covering? Hard to tell from the picture. If they are, they might be Carbonneau woofers. EV used them some.

Haven't been able to trace the cabs. The tweeter is the same one used in the Marantz Imperial models, but these are not the same woofers as in the Imperials. And the cabs, though similarly-shaped, do not look exactly the same either. Maybe some modded Altecs, like someone said.

I had to look up 886 (not that I doubted you) and it's true. I'm not versed enough in the vintage Altec stuff. :)

az

Yup... Looks like the guy got a pair of gutted 886a's (or ones with trashed drivers) and put together a modded pair with different drivers and a modded crossover (I would assume). They probably sound pretty-nice, I would think (unless the guy who made them is a total noodlehead).

What kind of woofers are those? I've been trying to figure it out.

Those CTS tweeters were used in many, many vintage speakers. Here's a shot of the early DLK 1 1/2.

Yeah, I know... Marantz was just the first brand that came to mind, since one of the old Imperial models had the same tweeter and a similar driver-configuration, like the DLK 1 1/2.

Thanks for all the input/responses! Still available and I have been able to negotiate with the seller in the past, so I'm expecting about $25 - $30. Might just go take a look.
They do look very similar to both the DLK's and the Altecs, but the crossover panels and connection plates look like real bottom shelf crap, so I am not expecting much.
