Cannabis and weight loss

Sorry total BS, it's a appetite stimulant. THC can make food taste better and trick your brain into thinking you're hungry, even if you've recently eaten.
I smoke for glaucoma and have since... (Yes, it works for me and I visit the eye doctor twice a year and he says it works for me and to continue.)

For those with glaucoma, without smoking my numbers are at "25" and above 20 is where it gets dangerous. Smoking takes my numbers down to ~12-16.

It is not an appetite stimulant for me nor does it make food taste better. I'm 5'10" and weigh 158#.

Maybe for the recreational smoker...

I don't personally think that marijuana has any direct value in terms of weight loss.

But I don't think that it's a barrier either. Additionally, depending on how you use it, it can make it easier not to focus on eating; assuming that's an obstacle for you in terms of weight loss.

As far as "the munchies" go; my personal experience is that marijuana on it's own does not increase my hunger in any meaningful way. Marijuana + Alcohol at the same time however, and all bets are off... But then again, if you are actually trying to lose weight, then alcohol should be one of the first things that you cut out of your diet. Of course, my personal experience might not reflect those of others.

Losing weight is actually pretty easy. All you really have to do is drastically cut back your calorie intake. Things like alcohol and snacking between meals should be the first to go. Eating as little as possible during meals is the next step. Cut back your calorie intake enough, and you'll lose weight even if you literally sit on your butt all day long. Of course, exercise certainly helps and is great if you can manage that also. But, you can make up for lack of exercise by cutting back your diet even further, whereas you cannot really make up for overeating+snacking+alcohol just by doing extra exercise. Controlling what you consume is really 70% of the battle of any diet.

Glaucoma here to. I've often thought of doing the pot thing to help lower my pressure but I just can't stand the way it makes me feel. I have 12 and 18 with drops.
Talking to my retina specialist I've been assured that yes weed does help in lowering the IOC pressure.

Back 30 years ago in college when I used occasionally during parties it made me want to eat everything in sight! As a matter of fact we give it in the Hospital in pill form to stimulate appetite, called Marinol.
My late uncle suffered from Chron's disease. When he had bouts that forced him onto a feeding tube, the only way he could get back to eating food was to smoke in order to stimulate his appetite. This was before it was approved for even medical use in NJ. He told his doctor this, and the response was basically "I can't tell you to do that, but whatever works for you".

I think at least no small part of that was a liability thing. The doc can't tell you to use an illegal substance even if it does work to treat whatever is going on. Might be a different story now, he could have gotten a prescription or just bought it legally for recreational purposes.

Marijuana is a fascinating herb with such a long history. Its effects can be the opposite for different folks. Apparently, the old Love Drug can trigger the very rare, and probably sick, person to commit violent crimes. Pot helps some of us to sleep and others to finally clean the work bench and vacuum the house and split some wood -- just be careful with your axe-aim. It can be an aid to concentration or scatter your thoughts, and it can perform its magic differently at different times. Some oddballs don't seem to be affected at all. As I said: Fascinating.

I think anyone with long term knowledge of Cannabis knows it generally stimulates your appetite,
and weight gain is more typical than weight loss. ;)
But as the saying goes, your mileage may vary ...

Some cats are not affected by catnip, too.

weed does not give you the munchies.

you are just hungry. the weed causes you to say "i got the munchies" instead of "i'm hungry"
Actually, that’s not true. THC has shown to lower your blood sugar. This can and will make you hungry. The lower your sugar, the hungrier you become. I’ve been a diabetic for almost 30 years (not bragging!). You want to see someone with the munchies, check out a diabetic who is crashing. Been there too many times, self preservation kicks in, and you literally CAN NOT get the food in your face fast enough.
It’s not a well known fact that many diabetics die every year from choking on food because they shove it in too fast.
it‘s sad and scary as hell.

Hope it was a good one croakmeister. Way back before buying ounces, we got "lids" and it took a few smoking's before some of us felt anything. The weed was low-grade or, maybe, wasn't weed. With the high-octane stuff now, at least your first time might have made you feel like a virgin. (Hey Mannn, I'm thinking of Madonna)

Was on thc for several years for sleeping. Legal here but mine was prescription. I don’t smoke so it was 100% thc, first in straight oil and then in caplets.

No weight loss whatsoever.

I’m also type II. Didn’t do squat for BG levels. Neither up nor down.

CBD did nothing for any of the things they prescribed it for. Even at 100% cbd; nothing.

But my “system” tends to be different than most. If side effects of something are listed as “1 in 8 billion chance of growing a third arm”, the only question for me is “where is it going to come out”? Doc calls me a “science experiment” because I almost always have atypical side effects to any prescription.

I also had to stop taking thc because it became ineffective as a sleep aid. I tend to build up resistance to just about anything I take and I was at a point where I needed far too high of a dose to get any significant effects.

As to “high” or “mellow”, I can’t stand that feeling. I have no interest whatsoever in “recreational use”.

Same as being drunk: can’t stand it.

So I don’t “get high” and I essentially don’t drink. I do enjoy a little nip from time to time, but I don’t get anywhere even close to “tipsy”.

I don’t begrudge anyone who partakes (as long as they are responsible about it), totally their choice. Its just not for me.
