First gen with the two ribbons per speaker or later with one long ribbon?
There is a set currently on the local Worcester Mass CL for $880. Seller says they have a slight buzz I believe. I think I saw another set listed on the Boston CL for well over a thousand.

saw a pair locally to me for 400, but the woofers were in bad shape and had no way of testing the ribbons (was home for the weekend) To my knowledge the listing ran its course and the guy never sold them. Buzzing in the ribbons is bad news and can cost a great deal to fix or replace.. buyer beware.. Always listen before you buy.

I am a big carver guy, although never owned a component, just auditioned.. Frankly I am a big audio guy, I just like music that sounds good through a good sounding set up Been trying to jump into the high-end audio spectrum for years, but my age and budget (22 and almost nothing) really keeps that from happening ha ha.

Will keep that in mind! But they were not mine, they were a CL listing that I saw and posted here.
Actually their are quite a few of the Carver Amazings out there, I see them quite often for sale, and sometimes quite reasonable. I have yet to hear a pair, hopefully some day I will get a chance. But before Carver made the the Amazings he made a speaker system when he was with Phase Linear, I have two sets of them and they are one of the most enjoyable speakers I have. The Phase Linear Andromeda's were his first and then he changed the name and the revised ones were the Phase Linear III's I have a set of both of them and they are great speakers. Because of their age and the hi price when new they don't come up often and when they do they are usually pretty beat, but every once in a while a good pair comes up anyone that likes Carver gear or for that matter anyone that likes good music should make a point to hear a pair. I think Carver fans have an annual get together but its usually in the Northwest I think Washington state, I would love to go to one, all the members bring their Carver stuff to audition for people. There are a couple other members here on Ak that have pairs of these speakers, but they are a fairly low number.

These are Carvers first speakers well actually his second as these are the Phase Linear III's which are the same as his first except they have a slightly upgraded crossover and instead of having five of the up firing hi range drivers the model III's use a Audax silk dome in the middle of the panel instead of a fifth upfiring driver.
Off to the outsides of the panels I have the bass commode that comes with the system which has two downfiring 12 drives in a Walnut cabinet, in my set up I use a pair of the bass commodes instead of just one.

When you consider the amount of loudspeaker you're getting, and that the deal includes the boxes which nobody ever has (I had mine for 20 yrs until I "lent" them to someone so they could transport a pair, and I never got them back. Thanks dude!), it's really not WAY out of line. Maybe by a couple hundred bucks but that's about it. I still have 8 brand-new woofers (Platinum MK.IV) I ordered from Orevox about seven years ago ($241 shipped to my home for all) but I still don't need them, the originals are fine after 22 years. The final retail price for the Platinum MK IV before being discontinued was $2300/pair for oak, and $2700/pair for black lacquer.
I don't feel that is way out of line at all in comparison to what big name speakers from the 50's-70's command on the used market, and can't hold an ember, no less a candle to the Carver things.
