Carver tfm-15

A guy wants to trade his Carver tfm-15 amp for my Butler Tube Driver car amp. I read some reliability issues with the Carver amp. Any thoughts on the tfm-15? Thanks, Will D.

reliable as a stone.
It's a traditional A/B transistor amplifier. It does NOT have a Triac transformer, and outputs 100 wpc.

Can I run my Maggie's with it, and without a preamp? And is that a good recommendation? Because i'm tempted to do this trade. Thanks, Will.

I wouldn't run anything without a preamp, you need the gain. Don't know which maggies you have, but they like power. They also, to my ears like Carver amplification. I currently use a PM 350 output is 450 wpc @ 4 ohms to drive my 1.6 QRs.
I use a bryston Pre-amp, so I have a balanced path all the way from my computer source to the amplifier.

I'd get the amp checked out, it is nearly thirty years old, but reliability shouldn't be an issue. I am using one to drive a number of infinity and M&K speakers (through a good speaker switcher) with one currently, and I've never had to repair anything afaicr.

Well were going to do the trade for sure. I am running a completely refurbished pair of Speakerlab 4's with a Parasound 1205a and Parasound dvc-1800 preamp with an M&K mx-70b in a 2.1 and it sounds great in the living room, so I don't wanna mess with that system. But the Maggie's are in a family room in the basement. The Maggie's were refurbished a couple of years ago and I got them for $200.00. I gotta stop buying so I can get my ADS L-780's up and running again as one of the tweeters quit working. But wouldn't ya know it, I couldn't resist a very nice pair of speakerlab 2's last week for $60.00, there I go again damn it, no self control. So i've got to find a buget minded preamp for the Carver as I am a blue collar worker. Using a pair of ADS B-7's as fronts with an ADS MV-10C center channel speaker and a pair of ADS L-300's in a small man cave also in the basement with a M&K vx-4 sub. And Saturday i'm picking up an M&K volkswoofer 12 inch for $50.00 which is what I paid for the other two M&K subs. Just got to find that preamp now, i'm obsessed. CL and fleabay are getting my attention as of now, can't wait to hook that Carver up. If I find an affordable preamp i'll run it by ya and get your advice on it if dat be cool? Thanks man, Will D.IMG_20170116_074553.jpg IMG_20161226_112501.jpg IMG_20161226_112526.jpg IMG_20170116_074445.jpg IMG_20161209_163355.jpg IMG_20160916_134423.jpg IMG_20160916_134434.jpg
