In my oppinion cats and audio don't mix,I saw another reciver today at the good will store choked with cat hair and cat dander the little XXXX must have slept on it because it was warm,They chew audio cables, claw speaker grills and can spray on your records too. I caught a cat clawing the new top of my convertable when I was a very young man. And have never met a cat I didn't dislike since.

what is your bad kitty story?

Do you think cat's have any value at all?

If so what is the virtue in a house cat?

They will torture and kill any smaller thing they find just for the fun of it they don't kill because they are hungry cats kill for sport alone.

they aren't loyle like a dog.

help me find 1 good thing about cats,there must be one,well they steel the breath from babeys.wait that's not good eather! just cant think of one good thing .just smell someones house that has a cat.and these are the first people to complaine about the smell of cigerets on your coat,never mind there whole house smells like fluffey's AXX!!!

I have to warn you, this topic will most likely be met with a bad end, as there are many cat lovers here.

I personally have known some good cats. However, i couldn't handle a pet who could jump 6 feet clean into the air..lol To many knick knacks around. So we got a lazy little pug dog.

Cats can be loyal, it just takes some working on, they aren't as naive as dogs are. They can be great pets for kids, you just need to get one that hasn't lived the street life. The street life is hard on a kitten, and causes them to do whatever they want to have a small amount of fun, be it tear convertible roofs or pee on your porch.
 
Thank you for the heads up I've been warned, but this is also an ivite to change my mind. And a good way for cat lovers to make there case even if that case smells like dirty cat litter !!haha sorry I just couldn't resist...
Honestly,I found a old marantz reciver that was just catted up! and felt it would be a real fun topic, surly there are people who love cats that can see the down side too.but i'd like to hear cat storys, cat jokes and mabey I did tell the unspoken dark side of cats but I was just useing satire to make a finer point.like the crack about them steeling baby's breath. Lt's se where it go's as we are all grown ups here,well I hope.Thanks,Jeff

Sounds to me like you have experienced bad owners, not bad cats!

I wanted to like them. I really did try.

Anyone ever see the jerk? I love the bit about cat juggling, What would be a good cat owner someone who shaves there cat,declaws it,netures it then keeps it locked in a closet? so it can't wreck stuff? SOMBODY HELP ME!! i WAN'T TO SEE THE LIGHT....
 
I trained my cat to go to the bathroom in the toilet, so there's no stinky litter box, and bought him an automatc feeder & water bowl. Basically I have a pet that is 0 maintenance and only fun. He has a ton of personality and is a joy to have around all the time - I've never had a problem with him and my audio equipent.

Plus he's cute

A good owner is someone who will take good care of their cat. Keep the litter boxes clean and brush their cats often. My cats offer my wife and I a great deal of companionship and love. Contrary to popular belief, cats are trainable and you can teach cats what not to do, such as destructive behavior. As I stated before, it looks like you have experienced bad owners! BTW, I saw the bit about cat juggling too, I thought it was in very poor taste.
 
Between 2 cats, a dog, an iguana, boa, and bearded dragon, our calico female cat (Kahli) is the other music lover in the house.

My cat *loves* my speakers...had to remove the grills to keep her from clawing at those. :(

Otherwise, she's the one sitting with me when I've got some music on relaxing. Great time to brush her and get that dead fur off. (she sheds quite a bit). The dog's hiding under the bed, the other cat is nowhere to be seen.

The reptiles don't really seem to mind, though my bearded dragon does seem to like hard rock/metal. He tends to perk up when I'm playing some tunes like that.
 
Our cat is a real sweetie, hardly ever does anything bad and has never scratched a grille even though she sleeps in the basement full of old radio consoles and a pair of Klipsches. I think it's the owners too. People's pets often reflect the owners' attitude. Ours is a social cat who will come out to meet guests and beg for a pettin'. She is a treasure. We rescued her from starvation, probably an abandoned pet, and she loves us.

Cats know if you like them or not, if you "speak cat," or not.
 
Like cats and dogs, but won't own either because in my opinion they don't mix with hifi....too many risks. I think alot depends on if you're finicky about your gear (no value implied by the term finicky). I am and I know that about myself so I'd rather not hassle with it.
 
If a cat starts to sharpen it's claws on the furniture or speakers, squirt it with a water pistol. It won't take too many times, before it will learn to not do that.

If you smell the litter box in someone's house, it's because they're too lazy to keep it clean enough. Keep it cleaned out, and you won't smell it. Cats are very clean animals. They try to cover up anything that stinks, and they wash themselves a lot.

A cat that's been fixed doesn't spray. Cats need to be spayed or neutered. If it's not done, then don't complain about the consequences. It's the owner's fault, not the cat's. The cat is doing what comes naturally.

Cats are much more lovable than a dog, but only when they want to be. The independence is what a lot of people don't like. People are used to a dog coming when they call them. A cat may or may not come when called. If you have a cat and dog, next time you call the dog, look at the cat. You can almost hear the cat say, "stupid dog!" :)

Cats don't chase cars, or people on bicycles. They don't run up to you and bite you, for no apparent reason. They don't mame(sp?) or kill people, like some dogs do. They don't wake up the neighborhood, when a leaf falls from a tree at night. They don't jump up on you, and drool and slobber all over you, and leave big wet spots on your clothes. They don't jump in the water, and come out and shake the water all over you.

Their mating ritual can get kinda loud. But so can some people's! But that's not a concern, if they've been spayed or neutered.

I could live with a dog, except for one thing. The barking. I can't stand the sound of a dog barking! It makes me want to rip out it's vocal chords! Of course I wouldn't.

Can you tell I'm a cat lover?
To me, there is nothing on the planet, any cuter than a three to four month old kitten. Little puppies can be cute too, but can't hold a candle to a kitten. I know some of you will disagree. Even though some puppies can be cute, it wouldn't bother me at all, if dogs became extinct.............
Of course, this is my opinion, and I respect your right to like a dog. :)
 
Hmm, I did have a cat for several years. She left with my Ex. I prefer my dog but the cat was pretty cool.

She was not particularly destructive, and my house never smelled like cats.

If your looking for someone to change your mind, look in a mirror. Nobody can do that for you. I was not too fond of cats (more indifferent), but can understand why they would make such good companions for people.

BTW, if I ever ran upon a cat owner that treated a cat like you said, they would likely have a shoe so far up their ass I would have to go buy a new pair.

There is no excuse for cruelty to any animal.
 
I've basically had cats all my life...a handfull of dogs too, and at one point, for a short time, a lamb. I like dogs, but I like my dog to be "down here" as in, I like small dogs, I am quite fond of mexican weiner dogs (chiuaua mix) My opinion is that for me, the cat has to be male, the dog has to be female...I've had better experiances when it comes to personality that way. The female cats I've owned/been around have typically been friendly, but also really bitchy...the male cats I've owned have been VERY loyal, very well behaved, and very nice. They've been my friends, and I really miss the ones that are no longer with me. You need to treat them like they are people, talk to them, have conversations with them...they will participate if you've done things right. They really just need attention, and they need people who will treat them right. And yes, some cats are just plain wierd. The woman I live with is super freakin cool, and has three cats, two female, one male. One of the female cats is super nice, however, the other female and the male cat, they're just weird...when I walk into the room they act as if i'm going to do something bad to them....they can't get outta the way fast enough...strange...but I like cats, and I like dogs...

But

I don't like dogs who chase cars, bark non stop for no reason, stink (that falls on the owner) are mean, are aggressive, etc.

But if the people are nice, usually, the animals are nice too...dogs & cats are like children, they take after their people. Be nice to them.

I've always found it funny when people go "I don't like cats because they don't do anything" I'm assuming they mean that the cat won't run and catch a freakin frisbee when you throw it...that's like being upset because your Pioneer SX-1980 won't decode new-fangled surround sound and doesn't have features like coax and optical input...if you want that, get a freakin HT receiver, and if you want a cat that will run after a frisbee, get a dog.

But I've never seen a cat or dog who really enjoys or really gives a rip. Cats do seem to really enjoy TV at times...try this some time, put that horror flick "strays" on the tube, and watch the cat freak out...it's funny. or, if you have an answering machine that allows you to hear the message as it's being left, stand outside, where you can see your dog, but the dog can't see you and call your phone from another line...leave a message for the dog...use things like "wanna go for a walk" if they know what that menas....it's awesome...ringing the doorbell just to make the dog flip out is also highly entertaining...well, that's what I used to do in jr high anyhow....it was good.

Now I do have to wonder what cats & dogs really think of music when it's playing....since they don't REALLY react to it.

BTW a child can do way more damage to audio gear that a dog of cat, and an ex-spouse can do more damage than all of the put together. So if you want to take care of your gear avoid all contact with anything living. Plants included.:D

Now i am to the core a dog lover, but also lived with and loved a Sealpoint Siamese cat for over 18 years, i know these things to be true.:yes:

I'll take a half dozen good cats over 1 bad child or spouse anyday of the week.:D
