I haven't had cats since I was a kid.

glad i caught this post as it brought back my memory of my long passed friend, guenther the cat. when i was 25 years younger than i am today , i wanted a dog , but that was not practicle for a young stud always on the move, a cat was the perfect pet i thought. sure enough , i was right ! a little food and drink and he was happy. entertaining, sure ,guenther was a born entertainer, but that's not what this post is about , it's cats and audio. well, guenther was not just a fan of audio, he was a connouseur ! my set-up was nad3020a, pioneer pl-516 w/dynavbector 4x10 and a pair of smg's. well , smg's definately had a sweet , and when the rock got to rollin, guenther could always be found sitting in the middle of the top of the back of the coach ,content as any kitty could be! he'd always make a move to that spot when the joint would start jumpin' and you could tell by the look on his face it wasn't an accident. he was content.he just loved music, loud rock and roll music.
Their entertainment value can't be beat. Animal Planet is #1 in the kitty Neilsen ratings...if there's a show related to felines (large or small) I'll put it on just to watch their reactions. Up to the size of a small jungle cat or bobcat or something they're quite interested...when a lion or tiger comes on you can see their eyes open wide and their ears start to flatten...they know the drill. Our little mutt kitty Sashi discovered this fur loon we have. It has an electronic sound box inside to make a loon call when you squeeze it. She'll carry it around the living room for a bit...then she's on her side with her front legs wrapped around it and beatin' the bejeebers out of it with her hind legs until it makes its sound. You can almost see her smile "I did it!!". Razzberry, the tabby stray that adopted us 4 years ago, sudddenly decided upon her own volition to pee in one of the bathroom sinks. Perfect aim...hits the drain dead center. Mr. Tux, 22 pounds of lean tom, insures that we've only had one mouse in our house in 12 years. Got up one morning and found it dead in the kitchen sink. I can only surmise that A) Tux found it on the counter and dispatched it...or B) found it elsewhere, stunned it...then carried it to the sink so it would revive and he could toy with it without it getting away. He will sometimes take his favorite catnip mouse into the empty bathtub and play and play with it...so I think that B is the most likely scenario. Three in bed do a fine job of warding off the Minnesota winter. All in all, fascinating creatures that can provide both companionship and entertainment.

I do have the strange ability to attract cats.Other people's cats.Cats which only come to their 'chosen' loved-ones.
I can often be walking along somewhere I've never been before,and there is a little 'miaow'.I'll look down and there is a cat walking beside me.
The most common thing that's said to me by a cat's 'chosen-one',is "That's so unusual.He/she never allows anyone but me to pet him/her."
I do like animals.
P.S I had an elephant at a zoo come over to a back gate of the enclosure,where I was standing.It occurred to me that I might be able to reach out,and if the elephant reached-out it's trunk we'd be able to touch one another.So I reached-out my hand and the elephant reached-out it's trunk and grasped my hand with the end of it's trunk.Then the elephant started crying.No kidding.Tears where pouring out of it's eyes.That pushed me over the edge and I also started crying.I felt this great sadness(I've got moist eyes as I type this). :tears:
When I lived in Cronulla in Sydney,there was a pod of dolphins which used to live in/patrol the surf-zone.
I used to surf a particular spot alone most of the time.Quite often when I was there,the dolphins would surround me and stick their heads out of the water and look at me.As an aside here,an acquaintance(who was tiny-bit of a jerk) was surfing with me at this particular spot when the dolphins came-up and one of them launched itself out of the water at full-speed from left to right just missing this guy's nose by inches.He has completely freaked,and did a backflip off his board,in pure shock.
I think the dolphins were telling him to "F*ck-off".
It was hilarious.
I used to get penguins come up to me at the same spot. :scratch2:
When I'm in the Aussie bush,and sitting there relaxing usually some wallaby or kangaroo or something will come-up and sit in front of me just looking at me.
I haven't got a clue what's going on with all this,but I do like animals. :scratch2:

I love cats, i used to have two cats that would sleep on my stereo. They'd scram once I turned on loud music especially Anything that had a booming bass line! and especially rap music they'd hide under the TV!
The third cat would stare at the power indicators as they flashed....

This is my kitty, she runs out of the man cave as soon as I turn on the amps. Most of my speakers are covered in rug and cats just love a big scratch board, but she leave sthem alone. Her name is Caligula and she is a 28 pound forrest cat.
PS, I could not live without her.

A 28 pound cat? :drool: I wonder what you have been feeding that cat! I never owned a cat that weighed more than 13 LBS! well maybe exept once..

Theo, I have the same thing going on with me. I used to be an appliance tech, and when I would go in customers' homes, their cats or dogs would always come to me. And their owners would say the same thing, they never go to strangers. They never let anyone pet them or touch them. I think they know that you love animals and they can sense that you are not a threat to them in any way.

My cat (Pipo) shown in the pic below was my favourite listening pal, he liked pretty much everything, and could spend hours with me 'listening' to music.
Only thing is that pipo died a few months ago because of a tumor which had spread too much to get it removed... :tears:

One of my cats looks exactly like him, his name is Neko (Japanese word for cat).

Not a control freak at all ,really not a over achiver or type A even a little bit . I just never got the cat thing.I have seen ferral cats whipe out the Egrid and pheasent population as these birds nest on the ground.I have seen stray cats growing in numbers seems to me for every cat lover is another who dumps the unwanted little kittey next to a school or an appartment complex where they breed more staving skinny kittens,I don't like to see this it makes me sick. I am more of a dog guy but don't like to see anything starve coverd in fleas and ring worm,ticks .stray cats are often coverd in perisights.what a sad existance they live .but I belive they are to wild to ever really be a good house pet it's like they are caught in the middle helpless and out of place in the wild and troubble waiting to happen.Or clawing someones new couch and batting at a fly on top of your turn table .although I am told some cats are no trouble at all .I have seen alot of houses including mine destroyed by cats the man I bought this place from had 2 cats that never left the house they used the spair bedroom as a cat box ,I had to sand ,treat and seal the wood floors and put down all new carpet floors are sealed in 3 coats of varithane wood sealer .The guy's girl freind was a goth so the liveing room was black and the accent wall was navy blue the master bed room was blood clot red .after haveing the house blessed I did a compleate remodle from the dry wall out.even the ac unit was replaced as the coils where choked with ,you guessed it cat hair! so my impression of cats is some what better as all of the folks here are very cool and mabey there cats arent too bad eather.Jeff

You sound like a responsible person.A perfect(purrfect?)candidate to be a cat owner.Next time you are considering buying a puppy(f'rinstance),buy a kitten as well.Bring the two up as buddies and enjoy the enrichment they will bring to your and their own lives. :yes: :thmbsp:
