cd/dvd player repair?

Can I adjust an old cd/dvd player that skips or will not read some discs to play better? If you then how? I have a magnavox dvd player and an xbox that I would like to try and repair,both work but should work better.

Hey!!!,
I watched a friend of mine fix my Kenwood CD player when I misbehaved like you describe. He cleaned the pick up lens with a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol. No more troubles....

Pull the hood and clean yours....it is not so scary a thing...

:yes: That's the first line of attack, lens cleaning. You may want to lightly lube the pickup slides.
