Changing it Up! Part Deux

The music collection is stored the genre and alpha. Rarely do I have to look for more than a second for a title. The best part of it and the part that can't be replicated by a ripped and stored collection is the all at once view I have of the titles (and yes I know there are things about a ripped and stored collection that can't be replicated in a stored physical media library). I can just take a seconds glance around the room and come up with my next listen in a way that I wouldn't had I not been looking at the whole collection at once. There is room for all different kinds of music libraries. I have a nice collection of CD's and can never see a time when a quality CD player won't have a place in my home.

I agree Art, there are many ways to do it, and what works best for you is great. I haven't totally gotten away from CD playback either, in fact, I use the disc drawer probably more than I thought I would when I bought the Naim Uniti. It is a nice piece for most everything. Maybe not the last word on total accuracy and detail, but sure plays music. I have been kind of on the hunt myself for a nice pair of speakers to use with just the Uniti, tomorrow I am hoping to listen to a pair of Harbeth P3's.....will see. Carry on Art, looking forward to what you end up with in your setup. Enjoy! Tim

Those actually look quite interesting, Dave. I have to close on a home refi before I make this purchase. Probably won't be them but I really like that speaker and would like to have a listen at home.

Would love to listen to your collection, Dave. You have some wonderful speakers. I'm hoping to get out there fairly soon. Dang it I ain't gettin any younger!

I have the Diamond 10.1's as fronts and the 9.1's rear (matching 9 series center) for my home theater and have no reason to want to change them. Fantastic low budget home theater. I bought all of the 9 series on closeout and then replaced the 9.0 rears with the 9.1's and the 9.1's front with the 10.1's. Sounds wonderful and full.

BTW, my Dyn's are sounding absolutely wonderful tonight.:thmbsp:

Yep, those Denton's do look nice, recall one the first versions with the paper coned drivers, nice sounding speaker, would love to hear these. Had a brief session with the Harbeth P3's yesterday, been awhile. Just wanted to get reacquainted again. Nice but didn't offer me anything that I would take over my Larsens, still, a beautiful speaker. Tim

Postponed the Apes until next week. Storm cleanup...

Hi Art,

Please keep us informed, when you've had the chance to listen to the Apes?, and share your findings!, as I for one can only imagine the outcome. But have always enjoying reading your post - as they've always made me feel as if I was actually there during these auditions.

Once again, here's willing you all the best during your quest for suitable speakers for your room.

Salaam,
Brotha :sigh:

Have you considered the KEF LS 50, or do the curved front and shiny black knock it out?

Thank you, Oscar. I hope to hear the apes soon. I was hoping this week but work may get in the way!

I considered the KEF LS50 early on and they were on my list in the first version of this thread. There is still a tiny sliver of an opportunity for them...very tiny. The Spendor and Harbeth speakers have taken a lead here. Love the suggestions though. Thank you.

You're welcome Art,

I hope things come together for you on both endeavors and look at being busy at work as a good thing........, as many aren't employed.

Be well as always little Brotha.

Salaam.

Hey Bryron,

The Focus 160 is a consideration. I was talking to the dealer about them yesterday. I'm afraid the bass may overwhelm the room.

My little cube of a room is a definite limiting factor.

Art,

You could try stuffing a rolled up sock or wash cloth in the port tube. This will make the bass roll off more like a sealed box, earlier, but also shallower.

The Dynaudio speakers, including mine, come with a port plug. I don't like how they sound with it in. Too bad because that would be an ideal solution.

I may soon be auditioning a surprise speaker. It is ported and it is second hand. Fingers crossed!

Hi Art,

I'm going out on a limb here and recommend ProAcs in one form or another of say their Tablette Anniversary or 50 Signature and possibly Reponse One SCs?, as I sold a pair of the latter to a friend of mine here in Michigan - which he has admitted of late that he regrets selling and is now trying to find a pair of them again, or the newer D1 versions which I was told by the distributor weren't imported here because many felt the Tablette Anniversary model was better sounding and better value for the money.

So, I'm watching with fingers crossed as well. Once again have fun on your quest.

Peace,

...and then there were three.

The used speakers fell through. The folks were asking more than I thoiught they were worth so I am down to the top three.

1) Spendor S3/5R2
2) KEF LS50
3) Harbeth P3ESR

I will also give the ProAc Tablette Anniversary another listen as they can all be heard at the same place.

Go 4 it..........., and once again just use both your ears and heart and think long term. I've the upmost fate that you'll more then get it right this time around!, and I mean that in a very positive way - I might add.

Salaam,
