Chess question.

Talked with fellow chess players about the touch a chess piece rule.

Can you move your piece and leave your finger on it and then move

it back to the original position? Or is the touch a piece/move a piece rule

in effect?

Thanks!

You cannot pick up one piece — move it around without taking your hand off it — then place it back in the original spot. Then move another piece.

You’ll have to move that original piece to a legal spot. If there are no legal moves, you can return it to the original spot.

If you touch an opponent’s piece (other than to adjust it in its square), you have to capture it.

Sounds like solid dating advice.
Yes! If the “piece” meets your physical requirements!

You're right, I read it wrong. No, you can't put it back. As long as you're touching it, you can continue to move (is that right?)

Yes. As long as it’s the piece you initially picked up.

Really, it depends on the rules that whoever you are playing against decides on. I usually try to figure these out before starting a game. En Passant is another one. Or it can lead to a lot of yelling and screaming!
