Against advice from the Citation guru, I fired up the lesser of the two amps.

The first day the power supply was brought up slowly under a watchful eye.
The second day tubes were installed and everything was brought up slowly again.


Jim Mcshane Emailed me step by step instructions on what to monitor as it warms up. Everything turned out great.
He told me not to even bother with the AC balance because it would just frustrate me. Jim said the pots will be toast.


In short, The bias remained stable once it was set. It never deviated from my initial settings.
The AC pots are perfect. They remained steady also.


I'm going to send my other amp to Mcshane for the full treatment once I get the dough. He is the best.

Next time I post will be after I get some custom paint on one of these.

Is it OK to power it up with no tubes?I am no expert by far,but recall reading that the tubes need to be to not stress the power suply.

Actually doing a careful preliminary fire up is usually a good idea. This after a close visual inspection for any burnt, swelling, or other wise distressed components and or wiring issues. It will narrow what to look for if there are problems after a rebuild. If you don't do a preliminary fire up then everything that you did during the rebuild comes into question. Best to have a clear starting point.

Not a good idea to leave an unrebuilt unit running untended though. Those 40 years old electrolytics may be 'working' but are still not truly safe.

Just to be clear, Jim did not tell me to do a pre warm up of the PS. I had other guidance with that call.

Jim advised me on the risk of starting it up. This was my choice.
