Cleaning a Receiver

I recently acquired a JVC Super Digifine RX-1010V. I have noted an accumulation of dust when I peer through the vents. I need advice on how to go about cleaning it. Will cleaning improve the performance of the receiver ?

compressed air works, and its not gona improve performance unless its like a 3 inch layer of dust that causes the amp to over heat, however cleaning the controls with contact cleaner may improve the sound if the controls are also dirty.

Maybe not improve but can last longer by running cooler. I did that with my TV and receivers and they keep ticking.

Compressed air is the easiest way. I blow it out once, then brush with a soft paint brush, then blow it out again. If you want everything nice and shiny you can then spray the boards down with a cleaner made for the purpose. (circuit board cleaner)

take the cover off, and lightly vacuum to remove any floaters. Then work around with a soft-bristled paint brush and vacuum again. Repeat until satisfied.

Place the JVC on a bath towel and remove the top cover and bottom cover. I like to use a 1" paint brush and shop vac. Flip the unit on it's side and use the vac first to suck the free crud from the boards and heatsinks, etc. Then brush everything with the vac. on to remove the next layers, top and bottom. Then apply a liquid detergent water mix with a clean 1" brush to all surfaces till the boards are clean of years of dust and grime. Rinse with clean water in a spray bottle. Let it air dry for 24-48 hrs. While it's drying spray the switches and controls with Deoxit and work them through their full funtion. You can also remove all of the knobs and face plate and and clean them in a warm bath of soap and water along with the top and bottom covers.
