Conceal and Carry Recommendations?

I think I am going to go with a Springfield XD Subcompact .40. Seems to do everything I want it to do, and I really like them. I will eventually pick up a few more guns, but for now this will be my carry firearm.

Thank you for all the advice and opinions.

Inspiribomb , Does your state offer a life time permit ?
Mine did , and saved me from worrying about an expiration date .

My fav conceal carry was a chrome plated Raven Arms MP-25. A cheap ass Saturday Night Special indeed. But I could consistently get a 2" grouping at 20 feet.

Hey Aaron I got my permit about a year and a half ago too. I have revolver that belonged to my grandpa but never shoot it.

Every time I go to look at handguns, the price and availability of ammo sends me home empty handed.

 I like those, the .40 is a good defense caliber. More stopping power than the 9, but it still fits in a nice slim profile handgun. Just a thought, the .40 ammo might be more available, considering the greater popularity of the .45ACP and the 9. Do you handload? You can save lots of money loading your own practice ammo, especially if you can cast your own bullets.

None of those is available around here. The cost has gone through the roof, if you can find it. My lady has to qualify, some practice just to be sure. It costs us $50.00 per trip.

Surprisingly, I recently had more trouble coming up with some 38s and 357s than 9s and 45s. Probably just natural ebb and flow.

Ammo manufacturers anicipate being caught up within a year. They are currently trying to keep up with the recent demand due to people stocking up and hoarding.

Tomorrow I am going to pick up my Springfield XD Subcompact .40, and a shoulder holster. Also, I will be installing my new Aimpoint Red Dot scope on my Ruger Marksman MkII competition target pistol :-D

I heard the other day that .45ACP's are going to be hard to come by do the Navy's new gun for the SEALS.

Could it be this one ?

HK Mk 23 SOCOM .45 ACP
The HK Mk 23 was a pistol developed specifically for the U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and was officially adopted in 1996. The Mk 23 was chosen for supreme accuracy, reliable functioning, corrosion resistant properties and terminal ballistics behind the .45 ACP. It stood against various torture tests including a separate unlubricated 96-hour surf and saline mist tests, 30,000-round +P ammunition endurance firing, drop tests, 450 accuracy test firings, submersion in sand, sludge in temperatures ranging between 160 degrees and -60 degrees Fahrenheit. The extended barrel features threading designed to accept a KAC suppressor.

RE: CC Shoulder Rig

I tend to like my firearms vintage also.A Walther PP in .380 acp is a good trade off for comfort/weight or my personal favorite,Colt 1903 pocket hammerless in .32 auto.I mean, how many times are you going to fire it in anger? These so-called underpowered rounds will do their job when needed.

You should never fire in anger... ever. Not saying it doesn't happen, but that is one of the many thngs taught in he CCW course.

Also, a .22 that you carry is worth a helluva lot more than a .44 mag that sits at home.

That's my point! "Fire in Anger" is what I meant by being forced into a situation where you'll have to Fire your weapon to protect yourself. So why Lug around a 1911 or a Hi-Cap .40 S&W with a rail on it when you could choose a .25 auto?

Well, I bought the only Springfield XD Subcompact in .40 caliber in town, in the bi-tone finish. It oozes quality, and feels great in my hands. I am extremely happy with the purchase.

I want to thank everyone who guided and advised me. Thanks, have fun, and be safe!

We bought my son a Springfield "Loaded" SS 1911 for his 21st birthday.

You made a wise choice and an excellent investment. :thmbsp::thmbsp:

I have several guns and I will not carry anything larger than the diminutive but powerful MK9. The larger ones stay home.
