Cover versions better that the originals?

Well, I've always been partial to the original because of the three studio musicians who played guitar, bass, and drums on the original - Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and John Bonham. They went on to form a fairly successful band with some other vocalist.
 
Coffin Break did a kick ass cover of Black Sabbath's Hole In The Sky.

I am guessing that the original sounds brilliant on a decent system then? unfortunately, I have yet to find a decent recording of the original to try on my system... but I will look harder for a copy now.

Neil's version... well it is just entertaining in a lentil eating hippy sort of way. I do have to buy another copy of the 12" single on ebay though (having lost mine in the past decade)... I love the B side as well (I am singing it to myself at the moment).
 
The Loco Motion Grand Funk. Little Eva did the original. I remember this song on the last day of school when I was in 5th grade.
Beatles You Really Got A Hold On Me. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles did the original. I guess I heard the Beatles version before the Miracles version.
Brown Eyed Handsome Man Buddy Holly. Chuck Berry did the original.
That's all I can think about at this moment.

Speaking of Grand Funk, they did a good job on Some Kind of Wonderful, by Marvin gaye and There Version of Give Me shelter, by the Rolling Stones was also excelent. Their cover of Inside Looking Out, was a lot better than Eric Burden and the Animals Version.

Also check out Loveage. It's another project with Patton, "Songs to make love to your old lady by" is the album name I believe.
