Totally ridiculous. For that price, the table should be absolutely, positively, 100% perfect condition....and I mean NO blemishes of any kind, and NO functional problems of any kind. Seller is definitely on crack, and he's never gonna get that much for a table that age, regardless of condition.
 
Well worth it if someone must have a semi-auto table (oops, read 1700 but it is the full auto 1600, see below for correction by commando). What else is out there at that price? This thing outperforms the Marantz 6300 which is in the same price range. I prefer it to the Sansui SR-838 (but the 838 looks better, but a manual) as the Sansui needs to have the quartz lock turned off to sound its best.

Let em go up in price. I got my 1600 II already.

The seller's looking to get lucky. If he allows international shipping the chances of someone biting is even greater.

I can't say what this particular seller will or won't get, but I can look at completed sales on eBay. A search on the keyword "turntable" in the vintage electronics section completed sales shows a lot of turntables that brought that much and more.

Among several Technics, none were that model, although you didn't specify model, just age. I did see one of that model that got close this week with a selling price of $675.

Whoa, digging a little deeper yielded one that went for $749.13! How 'bout them apples?

Depending how good you are at regurgitating platitudes, this salesman might find a customer. There is always somebody that will bite, human nature to always pay more.
 
So how many threads are there on AK (and other forums) extolling the virtues of the 1600 ???. How many people have actually even heard a 1600 to be able to judge it's sonic merits vs price? So why any surprise when a well preserved one tests the outer limits of pricing? Kudos to the seller, he's got the cojones to test the market.
 
Can't get it if you don't ask for it. There's always some DA that will buy for one reason or another. I have way over spent a couple of times because some items don't come up that often. I did that with a Matantz SLT-12U that was mint with an extremely rare dust cover.
 
Two Denon DP-62L's just sold in the last two days for $1650 and $1800. A S-shaped arm wand and counterweights only sold for $300. Those tables were less than $500 mint a year ago.
 
Sure, it's a ridiculous price for that particular 'table. However, prices have been climbing up on a lot of the better vintage decks. The seller is obviously knows prices are going upward, but doesn't know enough about the market (or turntables, apparently) to accurately assess the value. The issue is that if the number of potential buyers in the market keeps increasing, and considering that there is a finite number of vintage turntables, the buyer may eventually get that price. It's just supply and demand.
 
The last fully functioning mk2s sold on ebay sold for:
$749, $430, $450, $430, $555, $400, $675.

Avg: $527.

So yes, overpriced, but not as much as many here suggest.
 
My downtown dealer has these all beat. I inquired about a Marantz TT (either a 6300 or 6100). He said, "That'll run you $2000". Guess were I don't go anymore.

i think of prices like these as an over-correction to a market in which these tables were previously under-valued considering the feature set and cost of replacement.
I'd be very tempted to "take a dividend" at those prices :)
