Critical Security update for Windows XP

Update for Windows XP, I am not kidding, there is a really nasty exploit for XP that is so bad MS pushed out a security update for XP. This also includes 7, 8, and 10 but XP was included.

Here is the full story. It seems this is a patch that was released several years ago to block the Wannacry crypto locker. It was included in this update for 7,8,&10.

Win 10 did not have that exploit. Only the older Windows did. Hence why you don't use the older OS's. At least MS patches theirs.......

Exactly right, it was also patch Tuesday for W10.

Amazingly, still many XP users out there.

There are still tens of millions of XP users out there. Not every computer needs later OSes.

While it's hard to imagine many daily internet users wanting stay quite that antiquated, there are a few hundred million purpose-built computers using XP or NT 4.0 still in use.

My company has over 2,000 computers and front ends running XP and 4 0 just at my location.

And I used to work for a major company that serviced 15-year-old computers that were 286s with two MB of RAM that were hardware-based security computers for a very major company. This is when Pentium IIs and Xenons were the standard.

XP has so many flaws right now that only the critical flaws are being fixed. Using an unsupported OS is asking for trouble. It is at EOL. Unlike audio equipment software DOES need to be up to date.

If you have an older PC, try one of the light Linux builds, at least you will be secure.

I run CentOS 7 on an older PC. Linux has been my main OS for years.
